I've been marking down stuff for the post 3.1 learning rates. It seems to me that after about 21-22 ranks, rats dramatically fall off in training ability. Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so I'll mark the new cap appropriately.
My next question is, what have people been using post rats in Zoluren, if that's accurate? Badgers seem too high level, starting in the mid 20s or low 30s.
I'm a badger, I be badgerin'

It's definitely way different than before.
I'll drop what I've found in a second.

Rats/Louts to ~15 (can reasonably take them to 20 if you want to skip hogs, but it's slower)
Hogs to ~20
Goblins/Spiders/Madmen/Boars to ~30 (I learned to avoid areas with Corpse Grubs and Goblin Shamans as they're significantly tougher than the rest of the stuff in the hunting preserve)
Cougars/Wood Trolls/Grendels/Water Sprites/Gluttonous Lipopods/Eels to ~40
Bobcats to ??? (at 60+ so far and still going pretty strong.) Can also hunt Reavers/Wind Hounds, Beisswurms, and bears around this range - probably other things too, but I've been sticking with bobcats.
In bobcats, to train defenses properly I have to cull the cougars/jackals that come in until I've got 4 bobcats on me. Then just sit tight while defenses train up.
That's been my progression in the Crossing area. Those aren't hard caps, just reasonable ranks to move up to the next critter type.

<<Did rats - goblins - eels - beisswurms - sand sprites - Snowbeasts so far.>>
Similiar. Louts - hogs/goblins - eels - beisswurms - sand sprites - razor sows - silver leucs - adult sows - 1st tier snow goblins.
It's a great ladder so far, as long as you make sure you get enough box skill at goblins for the sand sprite jump, then enough at sand sprite for the snoblin jump (79 was fine for me jumping to 1st tier snobs).
