For those looking for something to hunt that's tougher than Haven *trolls/serpents/vipers/daytime barghests* but easier than Lang *trolls/small peccs*, I highly recommend Snow Goblins (tier 2) in Aesry.

I was hesitant to come to Aesry due to the very long boat ride (30-45 minutes I believe) but once I got into Snow Gobbies it's been great.

If you're new to the islands (like I am) I also recommend Kraelyst's travel script (http://www.lurksponge.com/travel/aesry.html)

One of the great things about the goblins is that I should be able to train up through tier 3 goblins which will prepare me to go back to Lang trolls/small peccs, or something else on the island.

For reference, I'm a 34th barb dancing badger (without dance I get hit)

I lock skinning and shield and get the rest of my combats in the upper (20s/34) before I need to head back to town to sell my bundle and gems and general healing (though herbs work great while out in combat).

Shield Usage: 143 Leather Armor: 164
Parry Ability: 165 Multi Opponent: 153
Heavy Edged: 167 Twohanded Edged: 167
Evasion: 150 Climbing: 83
Skinning: 106 Appraisal: 150

As a random aside, have you tried stacking berserks? You're soon approaching the cusp where dances become a more attractive alternative, but sub-200 ranks I found the defense boost from Stone/Nightmare (and even Blood, since it also grants a multi boost) preferable to Badger for the IF cost.

Yes, I did stack stone/blood/nightmare (in that order as IF recharged) while Oafs/Beasts were around Crossing.

I haven't yet tried the berserk stacking yet with the Snow Goblins, but will probably move to that since I haven't noticed a time to need to retreat yet (great place to hunt for me!).

Thanks

Snow goblins are one of my favorite critters in the game. I always prefer them over Sluecs/Swains/Hatchlings.

Silver Leucros are probably something you'd want to hunt before Snow Goblins. Even first tier snoblins are harder then Silver Leucros. But I agree Snow goblins are one of the best trainers, since they drop boxes and are skinnable too.

115-125 in combats depending on your stats and buffs.
