I'm really struggling to find what to hunt next. I have tried my hand at Celpeze, Spirit Dancers and Shalswars/Dragon Priests - but each time I end up dying within 15 minutes of engaging in combat. I'm primarily focused on increasing my defensive stats, but the 'random' one hit kills make it absolutely impossible for me to move forward anymore with the critters listed above.

What other options do I have or would you recommend?

Relevant stats:

Evasion: 428
Leather: 432
Parry: 442
Multi: 337

Agility: 34
Reflex: 40
Stamina: 40
Discipline: 40
Strength: 45

I have been doing lots of back training and have the following skills as well that I could continue to back train:

Light chain: 338
Shield: 281
Heavy Chain: 258

I'm feeling very stuck, knowing that anything I hunt that trains my defenses is likely to kill me within minutes of me dancing with it. Is this really what I have to look forward to?

Thoughts?

If you are dying every 15 minutes, the problem is more than just unavoidable open rolls- you are being outmatched by whatever you're hunting. I'm sure you already know this, but when you dance, make sure to max out (100%/100%) your relevant defenses and stay in good position (last combat move: dodge).

Your skills, especially you multi and shield, are a little low for north barricade celpeze. You might try raiders, if the spawn these days isn't too bad. Maybe work your reflex a bit. Focus on getting your multi up so that you can handle the 4 creature engagement caps that become so pervasive in raiders, celpeze, armadillos, etc.

You shouldn't settle for dying so frequently, that would be ridiculous.

You need to sit in orc raiders - with 4 or however many you can handle until you finish them defensively. It will be painful but it has to be done. I transitioned into celpeze from there very easily.

Raiders are perfect fit, plus they drop boxes (great for my disarming and lockpicking). I just scouted them out for the first time today. I can dance with three safely right now, the fourth being just out of my reach.

The nice part is they don't kill me instantly if they hit me.

Thanks for the advice.

<3 raiders, except for you can't skin 'em. I'm just about with you though, in that I'm trying to fill a skill gap(Skinning) until those ohh-so-precious celpeze. They truely are the land of milk and honey.

I'm surprised though, I've only ever been one-hit-killed once, and that was back with a caracal. Even when I tried spirit dancers/celpeze, they never once managed to kill me instantly. In fact... I only ever really get hardcore damage to my arms/legs. Perhaps I'm just lucky?

You're less likely to feel the pain if you wear chain or plate. However, Taghz is correct... you'll feel it soon enough.

Do you hunt using enchantes that nerf your opponent's attacks in some way?

Multi is the main thing to train and your stats all the other stuff will be good by the time you get the multi up for celps except probably the shield if you use it as a defense for long periods. I've got 260s in shield and it locks in under 30 seconds or so in the north barricade but i switch to another defense or start training weapons again.

The open rolls just get worse the higher up the ladder you go, i got hit with 3 in the space of 20 mins in celps but luckily they all took a limb and i survived but i also died a few times in there to them.

If advice was any good, they wouldn't give it out for free.

I'll probably use the warcats and reviers to backtrain my shield skills. Not sure at what point in time I can really use shield for long term training.

For now, I dance with 3 until parry, evasion and armor is locked.. Then I switch into kill mode. I may also try some shield backtraining there as well. Raiders don't seem to hit too hard with their swords, compare to say Spirit Dancers and their mattocks.

As for the one hit kills in celps, shalswars and dancers. That's all that ever hit me. These creatures would never just land a light hit on me with my current skills. The hit would always be parried, evaded or the wonderous one hit kill.

Usually only when I get overwhelmed. I also almost always use a shield stance, which I think helps by some weird twist of fate.

Based on your skills though, you could easily get one-shotted in a multi situation without an open roll. That isn't what most people complain about. Unless you get the special open roll messaging, it isn't an open roll.
