(You begin the verse of Glythtide's Joy.)
A tingling rhythm tickles the tip of your nose and begins working its way across your skin as the verse of "Glythtide's Joy" plays at your senses like a sparkling wine.
>
The scaly seordmaor closes to melee range on you!
>
You feel fully attuned to the mana streams again.
>
A scaly seordmaor jerks and jumps about it as tendrils of electricity dart down its fur! Its eyes flicker with bluish light as it glances at you!
A bolt of bluish lightning blazes out of the sky toward you!
Your hair stands on end as the lightning bolt strikes nearby!

Uhh, it doesn't look like Glythtide's Joy is doing a thing.

Are you guys sure it works against these guys? If it doesn't, I'll be happy to light these fools up with some other Enchantes. Sorta sucks having to constantly perform Joy, forsaking all of my other Enchantes.

You're dodging the bolts, sounds like a success to me. My barrier spells only kick in when their spells make contact. I'm not sure how Joy works to be honest. ;)

Joy's supposed to kick in in both aspects--both in helping to misdirect the blow, and also to mitigate damage done by the blow(TM).

It has specific messaging when it aids in misdirecting a TM attack, which I'm not seeing in this case. Could it be that for the purpose of this spell, these lightning bolt attacks are considered creature special attacks and do not pass through normal TM defense mechanics?

That would be my guess. I loved the cats when they lost their magic. Haven't been back in a long time.

I can only speak for Seal of Deflection and Shear. Both never give any messaging unless I get hit by Lightning Bolt. Might be an issue with Joy?

It's still a ghost town over here. Four seordmaors are the max at melee for those wondering.

The spells go through normal mechanics, they trigger both SoD and Shear if contact is made.

Critter spells run through the very same code that player spells do. It is most certainly not a special attack; it would be pointless to replicate the code and messaging, line for line, when it already exists in the spell.

All TM spells check for barriers only if they successfully strike the target. Since the spell missed you, it didn't have a chance to trigger the shield around you.

I'm not talking about the shield. I'm talking about this.

(You are performing the verse of Glythtide's Joy.)
A tingling rhythm tickles the tip of your nose and begins working its way across your skin as the verse of "Glythtide's Joy" plays at your senses like a sparkling wine.
>
You tap into the mana from ten of the surrounding streams and add it to the huge amount already streaming around you.

>
Person utters a few arcane words and orange flames abruptly begin to blaze between his fingertips!
>
Person begins to focus on you!
>
Person gestures at you.
A bolt of bluish lightning blazes out of the sky toward you!
Person seems to be listening to something.
You hear a distant chuckle, and feel a sudden sense of security.

It is this portion of the Enchante that does not seem to be triggering.

In particular, the "Person seems to be listening to something." messaging indicates that the person took a penalty to hit in the contest. On top of that, there is also a shielding effect if I were to get hit, to my knowledge. Two different aspects.

Perhaps I have no clue how this Enchante really works, and if so, please proceed to school me.

It's all part of the same barrier, really. It tries to slide the spell off to a side and if that's not enough it tries to block it. If the spell was not going to hit in the first place then holding a shield in front of you is unnecessary.

Try the seordmaors without Glythtide's Joy. Can they hit you?

Try having Person stance down and do it again. Person's LB was probably going to hit you. The creatures LB wasn't going to hit you so no message.

Ohh, I was under the impression that I had to use Joy otherwise I was toasty. I guess their LB isn't that bad then? I might try them again without it--the defensive experience was pretty tasty.
