After having played with these for about a day now with no problems other than a zealot occasionally clocking me a decent one with sweep, why is it that more people don't hunt here? It's a pretty fun little hunting ground with swarmy critters and the rider aspect virtually ensures that you always have mobs.

I guess maybe if you don't train shield it could be ugly, but from what I'm seeing it's a pretty great place.

It's where I went after gryphons, so I agree. Great place.

I used it as well. I know of a few people who have. The only downside I saw to it, which was highly annoying at the time, was the zealots' ability to parry melee attacks. It made them substantially harder to hit/kill than the shalswars or sentinels.

Elanthipedia says they train from 300-400, but in my experiences Elanthipedia's caps are normally lower...

But anyways if it is right, 300-400 ranks have a ton of options.

I'd wager it has to do with the zealots insane parry and the sentinel's trick arrows. Putting you to sleep and then lighting you on fire is not very fun.

Part of it is this, the fact that they only spawn well in two rooms is another, and then there's the fact that it's a long run from an autopath.

I liked them when I tried them except for when an assassin would sneak into the corral and kill me. I went back to orc raiders until I was ready for stompers because of that issue.

Depending on what side of the cap your on for Shalswar and Zealot's I would highly recommend using Purifiers until 450-470 in weapons and 550 in defenses and just move to something like Celepze or Zombies in boarclan. Purifiers don't have any annoying special attacks like a trip or poisen arrow. Before someone says they are a magic using monster keep in mind that they magically throw weapons at you which works defenses unbelievably well and when they do cast tremor its a snap cast and they quickly go back to attacking.

As a bonus, the 6 room area they are in is a maze so they teach perception past 600, stalking was still moving in the 400's when I was using the HUNT command.

550s defense is enough for Boar Clan zombies?

Yes, if you don't want to die from Ol'tuskys and even then its iffy. Zombies use brawling as a base for attacks so shield is worthless in them until 550 ranks (Yes, some people may pull it off with buffs but they open roll and kill you with shield, not so much with parry), if your only working parry then 450 parry/500 evasion would work for the smaller ones in the arena on the east.

thats not even remotely close. I was using stompers around 400-430 ranks of shield and low 500's evasion when they first came out. Unbuffed I could sit there stanced for shield or parry at 100 and 80 evasion and stand with 4, granted my MO was higher than everything but evasion. However tuskies are no joke when you first go in there but if you can stand with 4 stompers you shouldn't have much issue killing them 1 on 1 or if you have magic, etc to kill them easier.

Shalswar themselves seem to train slightly better than gryphons (noticably harder to hide on though). The sentinels and zealots work weapons considerably higher. I was having a nightmare of a time moving LX in gryphons at 375, but in shalswar/DPs it moves pretty well.

I have never actually been hit by a special attack while training in here. I kill off everything but the shalswar before locking parry. The zealot's parry is pretty crazy, I try to make my script favor killing them with ranged weapons but every now and then I have to do it manually which can be irritating, but I'm a pretty poor scripter.

Do purifiers swarm pretty good?

Yeah Purifiers swarm well and if its empty which most of the time it is, a war-horn makes it ideal. They have no defense outside of evasion and can take a hit. I went from them to black-apes. And if you think Zealot parry is bad try black goblins.

Apologies for the rezz, but just died to a DP assassin in the corral, is it intended they sneak into this area?

Apparently soon as there is 5+ hunters in the Black Spire DP Assassin area they start spawning out in the coral. That area is pretty much unhuntable for anyone at level. I suggest trying DP Purifiers over the barrier nort side of coral and over a tree. They teach higher than Shalswar but are in fact easier.
