How do these two creatures compare to each other in terms of training? In particular, I'm wondering about the pros vs cons of each.

Like I know celpeze have a pretty awesome spawn rate but I also know that malchata teach perception and escaping(I believe). Also, I'm not sure on how they compare to each other combat level wise.

I plan on leaving raiders sometime in the not-too-distant future which is why I'm asking.

Any info you'd be willing to share would be appreciated.

The thing that made me not hunt malchata was the whirlwind attack. I've always found for my characters that special attacks are just not very balanced (avoidable) at-level.

You could easily move on to South barricade celps from raiders with little trouble, and then move to the North barricade and into juvies afterwards. It would be a much smoother transition in my mind.

And now that celp eyes are actually worth something, you wouldn't necessarily be missing out on the loot, assuming your skinning is up to snuff.

Also, there are 4 levels of celpeze. 75th at south barricade, 85th in the swimming outer ring (enterabel from north or south barricade area) 95th in the inner swimming ring and 105th in the north barricade.

I could move my 2he and he at over 600 ranks in the south barricade celpeze.

They do drag you from room to room if you die, leaving any dropped weapon and shield in an unattended room. You need 280 in skinning to start learning in there. I get about 10PL per bundle now. Ambergease are heavy and not worth much still and I have NEVER seen a huge one.

At one time they were poisionous, but seem to have lost that ability now. 4 attacks bite claw claw tail.

If you can hunt celpeze, do it. Not counting the loot, they are about as good a creature as you will see at any level(especially in the range where celpeze teach). Until you get to the point in malchata where you can resist/evade the 3 different types of sand attacks, its annoying at best. Plus the gen rate (in Shard at least) leaves a bit to be desired.

Malchata are in a maze. Granted it's an easy maze, but that's still annoying. Plus, the spawn rate is pathetic compared to celpeze. Also, the whirlwind attack is seriously annoying. You can still get hit with 99 agility/reflex/discipline/whatever else it contests.

The upside to malchata though is you aren't stuck on script island. That's a pretty big upside.

You can never avoid the attack when someone else gets thrown into your room.

Well that's depressing.

Talking about Kresh I assume, if that's the case, now you can do celpeze on Ratha (the beginning ones, anyway)

What do you mean? Dealing with that annoyance? Or do you actually get hit too if someone is thrown in the room?

I just left raiders for malchata and I'm happy here so far. The whirlwind/sandstorm attack that can knock you out of the room is annoying, but it's easy to script a response and even easier if you were playing by hand. The escaping experience from their sand-immobilize is negligible, but its duration seems short (<2 seconds) even with low escaping. If any of their sand attacks have the potential to do damage, I haven't experienced it.

From my limited experience with celpeze, I would say that they are a vastly superior creature for training purposes. They gen better than malchata, have multiple difficulty levels, the area isn't a maze, and they don't have annoying special attacks. The downsides for me are the annoying location (with no moon mage or boat), and the fact that they don't drop boxes which I need to circle.

Yeah, this is what happens:

Falkonis comes flying into view! Falkonis hits the ground, managing to roll a little.
The violence of the storm hurls you west!
You hit the ground, managing to roll somewhat with the impact.

This seems like a bug to me since the storm isn't in your room, but maybe I'm confused.

Kresh > Ratha

I hate Ratha a lot more than riss/kresh.

Sounds like it's celpeze FTW.

Thanks.

You mean the attack that does damage to every single part of your body? Yeah, that has the potential to do damage. (Especially annoying if you're a s'kra.)

The only cool thing about Malchata is that they make familiars bounce.

Celpeze all the way.
