Were these nerfed in 3.0 in terms of training? My chain armor and defending aren't training past 90 ranks.

Their base difficulty wasn't changed, but calculations for all combat experience (weapons, armor, etc.) were. It's quite probably that their hard cap is different than in 2.0.

Thanks... what to switch to then at 90 ranks of defense? I would think sows and silver leucros would be above 90... snowbeasts, too.

Did you try bone or blood wolves?

Bone wolves most likely won't teach, I tried those then sand sprites (since 3.0 conversion), they feel about the same.

Blood Wolves, Caimen, Sows, would be the first place I'd look.

Thanks, I'll give blood wolves a shot.

Are the ones on Aesry the same as the ones near Theren in terms of difficulty?

Yes, Aesry and Theren blood wolves are the same, but they are mixed with bobcats. Sows are supposed to be a step up from Sprites (did you try them?).

Give Sows a go, for sure. They'll move you straight to Swains if you want boxes.

And remember, in 3.0, even in cloth/leather armor, you're probably going to be massively more survivable than in 2.0, especially if you have buffs.

Note: this is not a plug for Genie or Elanthipedia or Mars Bars.

I would try silver leucros first. You could hit them at 90 in 2.0 if you had decent buffs. They taught to about 140-150. They also spawn decently (although sometimes random.)

A little more info on Sand Sprites. I took my character in there with high 50's/low 60's in Defenses, and high 40's in offense. He was safe and fine.

80 feels like a soft cap. Evasion slowed, tactics basically stopped (I can get it to 1/34 whereas before I was keeping it locked), TM slowed.

I'll try sows and give some feedback for anyone else training up a newbie.

As my own follow-up, sows are working nicely.

To continue these observations, my character with light armor and no real defensive boost (at this lower level) couldn't handle sows at 90 ranks (when sand sprites stop teaching).

Blood wolves were perfect though.
