What's your favorite critter in the game to hunt that's outside of the normal hunting progression (whatever that may be)?

Mine would have to be moneygrubbers in Muspari. They have a wicked special attack (that stuns) and are in an area that's almost completely off the map, but their flavor and concept just make me smile when I hunted them. They are an excellent creature to go check out one day just for an adventure. Pack a picnic basket, take the long yeehar ride to Muspari, and check them out.

Speaking of muspar'i, the gam chaga and isundjen conjurers are two of my favorite creatures to hunt. Both of them give players somewhat of a feel for what it's like to deal with necromantic combat, albeit in a very neutered form. As someone who has spent untold hours hunting slavers and nomads up there, these two were just an awesome addition that really made the area a lot more viable for long term residence. Not sure how "normal" they are, but they're some of my favorites for sure.

You are Kasto del'Fawkraste, a Rakash.
Your face is a smooth, glossy grey. Your bottle-nosed snout is full of tiny sharp teeth, and a fine mist of salt-tinged air sprays from a hole in the back of your head as you breathe.

+1 moneygrubbers. I loved those guys. I'm also a big fan of the graverobbers at Ain Ghazal.

The madmen outside the west gate of Crossing are great just for the ambiance of the zone itself.

Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

Lipopods and water sprites were fun back in the day. The muck and RT made it difficult to move, but the ambiance was great. I also enjoyed the old morah vines/creepers, which I never see get mentioned nowadays. Grave worms under the manor near Leth were also fun, because they spawned insanely well, before gryphons ever existed, as a 90-150 rank creature. However, what I miss most in Shard, that really helped with lower character progression, is Dragon Priest Fanatics.

I already mentioned some of these in another thread, but here you go:

1. Pothanits and badgers. These are such great hog replacements -- the area is huge, they're swarmy and skinnable.

2. Frostweyr bears. I'm a huge fan of snowy stuff in general, but these guys are just a really solid exp choice. Swarmy.

3. Aesry la'tami. Climbing around was fun and gave incidental climbing experience, and I loved the flavor of hunting giant flying lizards. Plus as I recall they were very decent spawners and solid exp. (Shard has la'tami too, with the climbing exp, but I don't know if they spawn as well.)

4. I used to love lipopods back in the day. Finding old boots and such inside them!

5. Gate of Souls. This area is not easy, not a place I would ordinarily hunt for exp. But when I'm in the right skill range, I do like to go there for a real challenge.

Vile plague wraiths. Bone wyverns seem like a beefed up version of these also which is pretty sweet.

Zombie Nomads in MooseParty. You have to go through the westanuryn maze to get there which may deter some people, but they have a constant spawn and drop boxes at a prodigious rate.

I remember hunting Dung Beetles up by Haven. They seem to have become extinct...

They used to be out the West Gate of Haven, a long time ago. Nice Memory

I used to like to hunt the vykathi reapers <since they are known to break weapons, I'd brawl with em> that would spawn by the "door" in the fortress just a bit north of shard. <chyolvea tayeu'a>
As, the door hasn't worked in ages, neither do the reapers spawn there <you need a <obtainable by WMs> triskele medallion to hunt them in the maze there - and as I hate mazes... fuggitaboutit. :-)

Used to have a ranger friend that had done some quest down by Shard and we'd go hunting some vine thingies in there, think the place was called like Graev's Gate or something? Learned escaping from the mud pits and they were swarmy if I remember right, was pretty cool. Haven't been there since like 2002 or 2003 so dunno if it's still around or not.
