Where exactly does evil come from in Dragonrealms? Where do monsters come from? Did the evil sides of the 13 create them to make other forms of sentient life miserable? Are there other Gods out there (more than the 45 or so I can think of just offhand, if you count each of the immortals facets and the gods for those races outside the original 7?) who are responsible for things like Goblins and Trolls? What's the explanation of the undead if ALL of the immortals detest them? I'd actually like to know a bit more about the 13 immortals. Even the worst of them doesn't strike me as hard-core evil...they all have a purpose set out for them that they fulfill. Where's the outsiders, the Powers that want nothing more than to kick up the system and make everybody's life utterly miserable for all eternity?

Evil could be the voices in Solomon's head which he unleashes on all us poor souls. ::ponder:: As if anticipation for Simucon isn't mind boggling enough, now there is a topic about all that is going on in that head of his.
Can't wait to find out what this all leads to. Still not sure if I should be afraid or not.

Evil is relative and entirely based on perception. You think the troll is evil. I don't think the troll is too fond of you either. We assume that the gods favor us, since our interaction with the 13 is so much greater. However, who's to say they don't have a soft spot for the critters. Perhaps they just find our constant stuggle with the monsters amusing.

There are a few gods who definitely have problems with undead, but I don't think I've ever read anything that said ALL of them detest the undead, but then again, my memory isn't great.

A lot of people think of the Elanthian gods in the same sense Christians think of God. Perfect, infallible, all-knowing, all-seeing. Think of them more in terms of the Roman and Greek gods. Immortal but not perfect, sometimes making mistakes, fighting among themselves. Remember, the 13 immortals just barely defeated the World Dragon, and they still haven't managed to kill it.

But I'm waaaay off the subject of evil now.

Actually, I think the problem is that they're too much like the Greek and Roman pantheon. If you look at that mythology the gods all had defined roles, and what disagreements they had were more in the line of domestic squabbles than anything else. The main conflict as far as the Gods were concerned had been resolved before the existance of humans when the last of the Titans were defeated. The Gods all had their own roles up on Olympus and they only rarely dipped into the mortal's lives...and then only in a few rare cases.

The thought that the Gods are amused by the struggles of our characters is a very possible one, but I'd kind of hope that's not all there is to it. Being a plaything for the Gods is not the kind of epic reason for being that you want to have sitting around.

I seem to remember hearing that all of the Immortals are disgusted by the undead...I'll have to check it out some more.

I need to check on this when I get home but wasn't the World Dragon kept alive because it warmed the planet?
