We just had an exodus of several long-time players who were severely penalized for afk scripting, and a couple other prominent paying players have gone F2P for the same reason.
The afk-hammer has come down hard recently. Good, it's about time we cleaned shop some.

Persida, I might have missed you saying, but I was wondering if this thread was just for fun or if you found some useful tidbits that can be worked into future happenings and development?

You see Grazhir cracking open in one sharp movement.
The World Dragon emerges, roaring soundlessly.
It moves to sear Katamba to a lifeless black.
You see the night sky, filled with stars.

Guys,
Please stay on topic. If you want to discuss afk scripting, penalties, or policy, take it over to the policy folders, please. This thread is focused on what people enjoy about DR, and how they go about doing it.
Further off topic or combative posts will be removed and TAC warnings given as appropriate. This is not the place for them.
Thanks,
-Persida

>>can still choose to RP when they want to
To go back to an earlier discussion we had, and to get back onto the topic of how I play DragonRealms, this is what RP: None means to me. When I am set to RP: None, which is pretty much all the time, it means not to approach me with no prior contact or background in search of RP. Don't come to me and try and impose your roleplay on me, but that doesn't mean I won't actively engage in roleplay I come across if the situation fits and my mood strikes.
Re: How do YOU play DragonRealms? **POST HIDDEN and FINAL NUDGE** on 03/13/2018 11:22 AM CDT
Another post was hidden becase it was off topic. This is not a policy discussion folder. Those are over here: http://forums.play.net/forums/DragonRealms/DragonRealms%20Policy%20Discussions/view This is also not an afk scripting discussion thread. If you want to discuss those things, that's fantastic, but please stop derailing this thread to do so, and take those discussions to the correct folders.
I really don't want to have to shut this thread down too because people keep not following forum rules, as well as the many, many posts asking you nicely to keep this thread on topic. Please stop. Take a minute to step back before posting and consider if what you want to post is appropriate for the thread, if it belongs somewhere else instead, or if it would break forums TAC rules.
Thank you,
-Persida

Re: How do YOU play DragonRealms? **THREAD CLOSED** on 03/14/2018 07:04 PM CDT
This one's done, guys. People keep posting off topic or conflicts posts in the thread, and it's taking a great deal of manpower to continuously have to hide or remove those posts, so I have to shut the thread down.
I'm sorry to the people who were still invested in the thread, but thank you to everyone who contributed in the spirit of my initial post, and please know that your input was seen and appreciated.

I find that my play is affected by the race and guild of the character I'm playing. My Elothean Empath spends most of her time working. Socializing is a waste of her time. She'll heal anyone who asks, but you won't catch her sitting around the guild, partly because she has things to do, and partly because she can't stand the chaos of crowds. She's the easiest for me to play because she's a loner, I'm an introvert... perfect fit.
I have the most fun playing my halfling, but I really have to be up for it. She doesn't get much game time.
I have a gnome who is probably my most developed character (in rp terms), even though he's my newest. He was meant to be a functional character, but he surprised me by developing a personality. He's IC even if no one is around to see it. Some of his best friends are NPCs.

I started DR in the late 90's with the wonder of the possibilities of playing a game within a complicated, sprawling, ZORK-like world. It was exciting.
I became a griefer as I got bigger. Everyone hated me.
Finally, I discovered how much fun it was to operate with the goal of getting people to willingly enjoy dealing with (role-playing) my combative, PvP-heavy, stealing, often annoying, play style. All it took was turning up the RP very high - employing the may tools the game provides to help characters express RP. And inviting people into my world through RP, not shoving it down their throat through just rinse-and-repeat griefing.
Today all my dreams are dead as I am older and resigned to a life of mediocrity.

Well, I do spend a lot of time training for TDPS, but that's just because I want to be relevant when exciting things happen. Sometimes big monsters come in that only the really strongest can have a part in fighting and I want to catch up to be relevant.
Right now you could say I'm a "relic hunter," someone looking for magic items or weaponry often not thought of or remembered or just seen very often and adding them to my collection of things. Following the events of HollowsEve a couple years ago theres a forum post around somewhere that mentions using 911 assist to try to get some srs RP in flow, especially during events, but I've been rather afraid to attempt to use that, so my RP is generally only when I see others doing it.
Solo RP I used to amuse myself at the hunting preserve manor where the Crazed Madmen are at. After being injured sufficiently or needing to rest from fighting so many I'd go down the secret hatch and close it behind me as that was a safe area. I didn't actually need to close the hatch for it to be a safe area but being able to interact with the environment was very amusing to me and highly nostalgic. But now doors cant be opened or closed like that anymore, which I think is a shame, because when you're in a room doing something you might not want others to see, the act of the door being opened gives someone a warning that someone is or may be about to come in so they can stop or hide what they are doing. People do things behind closed doors in this game you know..
Also I constantly roleplay when praying to Truffenyi in my ever present quest for "spontaneous attunement." :3
"I, for one, think it's nice to have new folks who are excited and already care enough about the game to offer suggestions. We need more of that." -Solomon
Thanks for being in my corner Solomon, come back soon.
