Greetings folks, and surprise!
The onsite folks have put TWO custom properties up for sale in the SimuCoin store. They'll remain until sold, but past experience says these disappear VERY quickly when word gets out!
https://store.play.net/store/purchase/DR/item/206
Those lucky few who manage to claim them, be sure to use SIMUCOIN in game to have it delivered and get more information!

Looks like you fixed the squished formatting on the store page for the custom properties information, but there appears to be one bit that's still a bit wonky as in the cut/paste below.
I believe the first line up to the colon should be on it's own, with the part starting with "- A home..." with the other items below that start with a hyphen. The line right below about +25 storage added to furniture appears to be part of the home on the previous line I think? It's this part that's mostly unclear because of the way things line up.
* Your choice of TWO special additions (you can double up!): - A home placed in the room of your choice (Non-Premium players will be given 90 days of free access to the home.)
* Includes +25 storage spaces added to your furniture, to be split how you want.
- A personal forge.
- +5 additional slots on your guest list.
- +25 items to your account vault. (Note this will increase the monthly rent to access it!)
- +1 room with its own 2 props.
- +10 atmospherics that trigger in a random order for a single room.
- A bucket of gloop.
- A hearthstone. (This will be an item similar to jump jewelry that brings you back to your area once every 24 hours.)

More power to whoever bought it, I just personally have trouble spending that much on anything, let alone something in a game.
Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

You're buying RL "man-hours/labour" is how I see it.People to help you on a writing project. But yeah, I just calculated it out and we're looking at almost 2 grand USD. But to be fair, I think SIMU can make a ton more money by expanding the products they have to offer on the SIMUCOIN store. Currently, there is absolutely nothing that makes me go "I WANT THAT!". I'm mostly looking for fluff stuff, custom titles, verbs, alterations etc. Probably all the custom <fluffs> I want to get for my characters will add up to near 2000 USD, but again, we'll see how they improve the store.
Re: Custom Properties! on 12/22/2015 10:22 PM CST
The onsite folks set the price on these. There are many factors involved, and I'm sure part of it is seeing what people are willing to pay. These are considered a unique, highly customized option. You get a permanent place to call your own in the game along with some pretty nice options for things like personal forges, a privacy entrance, etc. Keep in mind that we only first introduced these a year ago, and I think these newest ones bring us to six that have gone out. I'm pretty sure the price has changed each time.
Because of some confusion, the price jumped more than we originally expected. For the two currently out (one has already sold), we'll be working with the buyers to toss a little extra in. We haven't settled on exactly what yet, but an extra room and/or an extra option pick isn't out of the question.
On a couple of the other concerns raised in the thread(s):
* It's worth pointing out that we have 2-3 GMs that work on these. Thus far, it's been myself, Ulerith and Kaarina. Having us involved with these does not at all affect Dev being done in other areas. Us working on these doesn't stop new necro spells from happening or new hunting areas or anything else.
* The GM side of building these is pretty easy. The part that takes time is getting the players' requests into a form that can pass QC -- making sure the text fits, isn't repetitive, spelling/grammar concerns, makes sense for the area, etc.
* We are absolutely planning new items to the SimuCoin store, and possibly better ways of handling what's already there. It's currently a mess of home furniture and jump jewelry, and it may be better to instead buy some kind of token that you then exchange in game for particular items.
There's a lot going on behind the scenes right now, and hopefully Lyneya and I can start talking about some of that soon. Please know that the concerns are heard and in many cases shared. DR is a big ship, and redoing anything takes time. 2015 has been a particularly turbulent year, but 2016 is looking to be pretty awesome.

I've always said I'm happy to use a Scoin shop, but the current selection of items is less than worthless. If you guys put some things out that are interesting and useful (for example, quest item prizes at 10% markup) I'd be all over it.

Working it out with my premium discount is about $1500 (140,000 for $999.99 and 67,500 for $500) or regular price $1882 US.
While that is crazy to me, I can see someone wanting to put their permanent mark on the game they love and have that kind of cash burning a hole in their pocket. More power to SIMU for thinking of creative revenue streams!

That's a crazy amount of cash. it does make me wonder if more money would not flow into Simu if these were priced lower and they were able to get more of them sold, say around the 500-700 mark. i'd love to participate in this and can't say that i was not disappointed at the spike in price (even given the fact that it should not have been that high)

also love this idea given that i love end quest loot but hardly ever have the time for the long duration quests. looking forward to the SCOIN and LTB revamp. thanks to all involved in those projects!

Z said this was a price set by the on-site team. He (she? I forget) also said the price was a bit higher than intended, so they're throwing in extras.
I still say its a fine price. They sold the previous ones so fast there were skid marks, so raising the price makes sense.
I also suspect that they absolutely do not want to do 'a lot' of these. It's time and manpower intensive, even if it's not a resource hog.

Raising the price of something because the materials used to make it become harder to get.. or the people that make it dont have the time or any actual limitation makes sense.. but none of that was the case.
Raising the price just because they can and are greedy... is a very bad precident. It is one thing if you start high and then lower it.. but to raise the price just because they (onsite staff) think they can get away with it? That is just ridiculous. Especially it wasnt planned with extras.
I think Zadraes is being more than fair offering some extra to it. Then it makes it more like the queen vs prince wedding packages. You pay more you get more.

Re: Custom Properties! on 12/24/2015 07:44 AM CST
>Most people in this thread said that $1,000 was more than they would be willing to spend so why would they care about what you are saying? People were buying them within minutes of them being released at $1k so why wouldn't they raise the price? Supply and demand. The demand is obviously huge for them so why not increase their profits while supplying what players want?
Just to clarify, I was not complaining or any such thing. People can charge and pay whatever they want for something. I personally would not pay that.
As someone else said, as far as profit margins, would a 500 price mark be better and sell more of them OR real high price and sell only a few. Of course we don't want tons of custom areas all over the place, I assume.
I was wanting to look at this as a possible plat sink item option. Make it a fest auction item and anyone that makes a bid will lose those coins even if they don't win the bidding.

While I would love to see this, don't the auction mechanics cap at 100,000 platinum? Based on the Scoin price this item would be somewhere in the 200,000 platinum dok range.
>>Make it a fest auction item and anyone that makes a bid will lose those coins even if they don't win the bidding.
This style of bidding should never happen just because of the insane drama it would create. If you wanted to do something like this you'd be better off with a colabrative project. Something like open donations for a custom area, top 5 donaters each get to design a different room. Next 5 get to design a something smaller, an item in the room (flower/simple food/drink/fireplace/ect). Top donation gets a private room inside the new area similiar to a private house.

I love this idea! Even as a pay option, that is something I would think many people would want to be a part of.

Why? This isn't game Dev. It's just stupid fluff that literally does nothing.

Definitely to expensive for my taste. If people are willing to pay for it, then more power to em. However, I don't think a huge amount of the player base is willing to spend the amount of money that the item is currently priced at. Sure these ones will sell, but in the future if they want a good turnout repeatedly they will most likely have to lower the price quite a bit. 1000 dollars would probably be more than i'd ever be willing to spend at any given point, though, I seen that as a high but reasonable price. I'm assuming that the price will eventually go back down to that if they want to continue making money off of the project.
Re: Custom Properties! on 12/24/2015 03:19 PM CST
Well, yes, of the relatively tiny proportion of people willing to pay cash american dollars to play a MUD in TYOOL 2015, it makes sense that an even tinier proportion of those are willing to spend that much money.
I'd probably go for it if I had that kind of disposable income to be honest. I don't mind in theory the idea of spending a lot of money on my hobbies. I've probably spent more on Magic cards over the years.

I hope that some of the cost of these goes to the GMs who work on them, rather than just all into Simu's pocket.
