Getting back on topic, here are the numbers for last week. I would have posted this then, but just dealing with parts of this went way after hours already. As I've said in the past, this is not #1 on the priority list, so if it waits until Monday, so be it.
Lockouts
60 days
Mechanics Abuse - 2
PvP - 1
90 days
Multiple Causes - 1
Termination
Disruption - 1
Warnings
Scripting - 8
Language - 1
PvP - 1
Mechanics Abuse - 2
So, we've got some things we've seen before here and one new thing. The thing we've seen before is the Disruption incident. This is one of those ones where a GM is doing something, while they're doing it they check with me, I see something else, and it's over. There actually is a warning out there for that account, it is simply on hold until they (maybe) get released.
Yes, accounts which have been terminated might not be forever. We'll look at the situation again if the player asks (after an appropriately long time) and consider whether they can come back. If you make that list twice, the answer on that review is going to be no, for some things just making the list once is enough.
What's the new thing? Multiple Causes. You'll see that one when the incident that generates the request has multiple serious things going on. Most of the time an incident will only generate one warning even if there are multiple things going on. Sometimes, that's not the case, and that's what you see here (and no, I'm not going to go into greater detail, at that point there may be enough there to do identification).
Happy New Year everyone.

And sometimes people who do get second (or even third chances) don't know when to lay low and/or keep their gob stopped.
There are some among you who DO know how to behave now, and to those folks, I offer my heartfelt thanks and best wishes. I hope you're having a good time.

>>Could you give me an example of mechanics abuse. I really don't know what that is.
B sees A put down a pyramid and guards it. Five minutes later, for whatever reason B decides he wants to take that pyramid but can't because it's guarded. B then drags A out of the room to break the guard mechanics, returns, and picks up the pyramid.
Even if B was trying to get his stolen pyramid back from A, B cannot indulge in this behavior and survive a REPORT or an inopportune glance by a bored GM looking for something interesting to do amongst the players for the next 5 or so minutes.

Other examples include things like figuring out a way to either duplicate or create items or coins. There was a way to get massive amount of TDPs by dying. On the rank you get a TDP you get killed and depart without a rejuve. You lose that rank but kept the TDP. You regain that rank usually a low level one for the abusers and now have another TDP. You can't do that anymore as they've fixed it. In essence, mech abuse is taking advantage of something that's not supposed to happen in game.

I believe that would be mech abuse, but Im not 100% sure on that one. Sounds like it would be though. Typically, mech abuse is using any unfair technique or known bugs/loopholes to get a distinct advantage in the game.
I had a friend a long time ago who made 2 scripts. One was for his main character, one was for a mule on his second account. He kept rerolling the mule, and giving the starting money to his main character. This allowed him to gain a large sum of money with no risk, and rather quickly. Some time after he was locked out (for mech abuse) the loophole he had used to get the money from the novice was changed to no longer allow it. I'm not sure if this was a direct result of his abuse, or if it was changed for some other reason. That is one example that I know 100% is considered mech abuse.
I hope I havent given anyone any brilliant ideas, and I apologize in advance to any GM's that have to deal with people modifying this technique to cheat the system.

It was right to lock him out.
He shouldn't be wasting time in an online game. He should be running a corporation or heading a public office.

Mechanics abuse can apply to doing pretty much anything that wasn't explicitly laid out as a purpose of any spell or ability.

well, the mechanics abuse that happend in TF, the person involved had 2 characters, 1 kept selling the same item on the table to his character on the other account for some astromical amt of coin that he'd get the trading exp for, and then giving back the coin and the item, and scripted that 24/7 to get like 600 ranks in trading or something.
at least thats what i heard happened.

Yeah when it was said that the TF mech abuse involved a trader, this is exactly what I thought of. Makes me wonder if the markets are even used in TF at all.
Basically I always used the rule of thumb, if it feels like you're cheating the system, it's mech abuse.

How can that be considered mech abuse when this senerio is not. A guards item, B advances on A, either in hiding or not, for the sole reason to break the guard to take item?

I dont think either situation is considered mech abuse. In the case if the first scenerio there are mechanics in place to stop dragging (AVOID) and there is a stat check in strength to drag. In the second scenerio, there are skill checks in the case of hiding, and in the advancing there is plenty of time to pick up the pyramid and retreat. Just because you fail to use the mechanics available to you for self-defense, it doesnt make it mechanics abuse for those who use mechanics to get around guard.

Actually it is against policy. As you can't fail to hide on someone and just because someone doesn't have all the avoids on doesn't mean it's fair game on them. Using the mechanics in a way not intended, in this way to steal something, is mech abuse. The main problem is the person stolen from cannot be sure who actually stole the thing and they did take reasonable precautions.

I don't know if dragging someone away from a guard is abuse as I've never heard a GM comment on it. I know advancing on someone who is guarding and picking up the item is not abuse.
Tingling and MBing someone and then dragging them away from the item so that you can avoid the timer on dropped items is abuse though. I've seen that post.

The person who advances to break the guard, even in hiding, still has to come out to take item. Even in hiding, refrac or inviso, you see them. This very situation happened to a friends character, and the GM's handling it said it was not against policy. In fact, the one who handled it was more concerned with the word 'damn'..

Both dragging to break a guard and dragging to bypass "ownership" mechanics is mechanics abuse.
Advancing on someone to break a guard is not.
Yes, this is all per various GMs.
