So I spent close to an hour tonight fighting a paladin 20ish circles my junior, so 150 barb vs 130ish paladin. My barb has 870 shield. 834 light armor, 700 chain, 868 defending, 819 parry, 860 LT, 860 LX, 803 small edge. You get the idea. The paladin has roughly mid 500s armor and weapons. I was thoroughly dominated, repeatedly, and never got him below 80% vitality. No combination of berserks, meditations, forms or roars could tip the scale. I tried melee, thrown, LX, poach, fire, offhand and main hand. Something is VERY wrong here. He took out another 150 barb with similar skills and also easily defeated Gorteous.
Could someone look in to this? If my barb can not stand toe to toe with a paladin 30 circles his junior, how can the argument be made that we have combat superiority?

Re: Imbalance. on 11/30/2012 03:15 AM CST
Im not going to comment on the fights, or if there is an imbalance, but paladins are the other 'combat' guild in this game. Our primary skill set only moves in combat, likes yours, and we both get the extra stance points because we are considered the two primary combat guilds. We focus on taking a huge beating, you focus on dishing one out (and of course we walk into eachothers realms with a number of our abilities).
Curious if you can post up logs of the fight and have the paladin post what he was doing, otherwise its pretty difficult to weigh in and this is kind of empty. I dont see anything in our spells that would make us beat someone with 300 more ranks than us. We lost HoW extra stance points and everything else we can cast are all buffs now so within the global caps system, including our stamina booster.
Basically its hard for me to understand what he could have done beyond maybe being bugged.

Yea, he was definitely bugged. He shouldn't be able to touch me at all. No one I've fought with (Leilond, Aaoskar, Raikage, Vymos, Kyudo) has consistently hit me that hard.

Look at that barbarian combat prowess go! It'll take a lot more fixes to keep me interested in the direction this guild is going. Also, I think the IF setup needs to be reevaluated. I can't fill it at level, because nothing will die fast enough that I hunt, and it drains too fast, IMO. I can "effectively" stack a small handful of buffs that don't even come close to what current dragon is (which I thought we were told we'd at least come close to). This is at 825 IF. I hope getting close to current dragon does not equate to having 1750 in supernatural skills. I do think the overall ideas are neat, but just need some serious tweaking and more beef. If the best we can do is slow down how fast we go down to magic, yet still swing/throw/fire our weapons about as effectively as anyone else, I don't think I am seeing the perk of being a barbarian. Words can be uttered about how wrong you think I am, but I know what I have been experiencing on test in action.

Anyone else notice the attacks used? A lot of jabs (low damage, high balance gain) versus a lot of chops/slices/charges. Not sure they should be making up for that much skill, though. Didn't Kodius say Smite was adding a huge bonus, and he had to change it? Was this before that, possibly?

Re: Imbalance. on 11/30/2012 10:02 AM CST
I doubt it was smites fault. If you look at the log at one point he just 'chops' and its for about the same damage.
Also Smite does not increase your TO HIT that much, it does amp damage, but its not going to make up 300 ranks of attack.
>>To let the proverbial "cat out of the bag", for some reason i'm bugged to having around 1400 ranks of 2HE for some reason. I wish I could keep it.
And there you have it folks. No longer a GvG issue, by my math he has about 600 ranks above the defenders defense.
>>Paladin cyclic spell was up that keeps me pulsing at nimbly balance. Why not do nothing but chop/slice/charge?
Before people cry about this, not the only guild to get this (I think barbs have this as well) and you still receive a defense penalty for those verbs, which is the main draw back from their use.
So basically you had a high offense guild vs a high defense guild, (the light hits all made sense to be honest, given how stamina and messaging now works for damage, where its based off how much % of their remaining vitality you did. Id expect 2-3 more hits youd start seeing solids) but was thrown for a loop cause I really doubt at base ranks that paladin would even be hitting the barb.

Agreed. Increase passive regen rate and increase the base regen point, or get rid of that limitation entirely as it was a terrible idea to begin - considering every ability we have is based off of it. With 800 IF I feel like I can't activate more than 1 form+meditation out of PvM at a time without severe IF drain. That's just crazy unacceptable - considering how potent TM is at this point. Compare mana and conc regen to IF and tell me to not cry foul over this, having already been blown away once by someone with TM near my defense level(Hackett, killed me in 1 cast with the new FOU-like spell). Turtle is an absolute must for fighting mages and Serenity is a must for not having the defensive capacity of a commoner - throw in eagle or dragon for our base attacking buff and I'm already over the hill.
So what's the point of having all these nice new forms if we can't use any of them without sabotaging our abilities? I'm not killing people every half a second in PvP so why is that now a requirement to PvP? Do they really us to have to run to goblins and spend 15 minutes killing stuff to prepare for one fight?

I wouldn't worry too much about it all. We're still in the test instance, so it may be premature for Kodius to start making rapid changes. I think it would be more fair to give it a run and see how it goes.
As for Hackett, I think TM may still be on the ranged calcs? Of course I don't know the mechanics behind it, but I believe TM is either on separate calcs altogether or it has been on the ranged calcs the whole time. Bow was put on melee calcs and so that may be the reason why TM is so powerful in 3.0. Or it could just be that that particular spell is out of whack. I'm guessing Hackett doesn't have over 1000 TM?

I wholeheartedly agree with what Gort said about IF.
I would also like to mention the cyclical nature of our weapon buffs. What was wrong with a straight ranged buff for eagle and melee buff for dragon? Now I have to draw, hold, wait, then throw with ranged, or hold a ranged weapon in my right hand and throw left to get any noticable kind of benefit from eagle. And when switching from say, 2he to small edge, there is a lag in the buff as well. Would the ability to improve our ability with all melee or ranged weapons from these forms be so overpowered? This seems like an interesting concept that just isn't practical and could use some revision, in my opinion.

This is extreeeeemely annoying. There is a noticeable lag on eagle and dragon - the buff itself doesn't even kick in half the time if you go straight to attacking because you have to HOLD the weapon type you are throwing for like 10-15 seconds. We tested it last night with "wield blades;throw" and it didn't bonus thrown most of the time. Why not just make them into straight boosts? Would save a lot of headaches.

It is the most efficient light weapon melee attack. The RT is very low, it builds/keeps balance and has the highest overall DPS of any combo at that weight class and with the huge spread on hit/miss that exists under 3.0, that tohit bonus is totally irrelevant.

It is the most efficient light weapon melee attack. The RT is very low, it builds/keeps balance and has the highest overall DPS of any combo at that weight class and with the huge spread on hit/miss that exists under 3.0, that tohit bonus is totally irrelevant.

3.0 is still very new. There are probably lots of parts that didn't convert over well. It doesn't surprise me that people are getting inconsistent results.
It's something a lot of people care about too so I wouldn't get too alarmed over all the posts right now. It's still an ongoing process so I think voicing our opinions without suggesting the sky is falling would be the proper way to do it.

Sorry, I had just found it funny that both sides were complaining they were too weak.

Lets just remove magic entirely. That would end the debate.

Unfortunately this post doesn't help us very much. If the Paladin had mid 500 weapons, he would have had less than a 5% chance to hit you. Something else much have been going on, not buff-or-Guild related. What kind of attacks was he using? What kind of weapons? What spells were in play? Did you ASSESS and make sure no curses were on you?
In the future always give as much info as you can (I know you did later in this case), but trying to hop back and forth with these forums is not easy on the mind.

>>What was wrong with a straight ranged buff for eagle and melee buff for dragon?
To give that kind of buff those abilities would cost 3 slots. I opted for a cycling skill buff, but the system would croak if I tried to allocate all possible weapon buffs in one go. I hadn't thought about the impact it might have on throwing weapons... we'll have to see if something better can be added later. Now that we have less ranged skills I can probably manage buffing them all at once. We'll have to see.

What about just buffing the mastery skills? Would that work the same way as buffing the individual skills?

No, probably not. If the mastery skill was less than the weapon skill you'd get no benefit. Even if it was higher, the benefit is just a % and unlikely to have an even result.
Just to re-iterate too, we'll keep an eye on the IF usage and tweak as necessary. Please don't go ragequitting just because something feels off right now. Constructive feedback helps us get it right.

Im not gonna rage quit, but honestly are barbs supposed to start a pvp fight at 33% IF? Because if so doesn't that mean we have a large advantage from a game balance perspective if we charge up and start at 100%? It's one or the other, either we're balanced starting at 33% And slowly building, or we're totally unbalanced charged up at 100%. I guess the third and worst option is we are under balanced starting a fight at 33% and that makes me sad, because tats the new baseline.

Its not only in pvp. In critter combat barbs seem to start at 1/3 IF, instead of 100% mana like a mage would. Makes it difficult if you start in an area without a saferoom nearby - i.e. you can't start up contemplation if you are immediately thrust into combat.
