I've noticed that some people are keeping their OP 3.0 stuff close to the chest in the hopes that it survives pre-release scrutiny. In the spirit of thinking this is lame, I want to start a thread whereby people note the things they think are their best hax. These aren't necessarily things that need to be tweaked by any means, but considering a lot of the negative sentiment I hear from some people re: 3.0, when they in fact are getting awesome stuff, I think the thread could be both encouraging and a check for us all to see what we think of certain upsides.
Note: I am not asking for all the downsides. Some guilds lose some things while gaining more, and vice versa. It's not a balancing equation, more of a: "this is what is new and totally rocks for me" thing *under the current mechanics* (being tweaked all the time). The Underwhelming stuff is just mentions of things that should be neat, but just aren't quite there.
Also add a list for things you hoped were Hax and aren't. If you want.
I'll start for Traim as a MM. Some of these are the same in 2.0.
--Whole displacement. Keeps me at range pretty much as long as I'd like, against anyone it seems, and triggers quickly and reliably with no downside.
--Contingency. In combination with WD and good planning/preparation, it makes it very, very difficult to actually finish me off
--MB autosleep on stunned target. I don't know if this is the case in 2.0 anymore (I think it once was, not sure about now) because I use shear and dazzle instead of MB, but the MB auto sleep on a stun in 3.0 is absolutely awesome for those of us that can lead with a weapon and can cast MB at its high min quickly.
--Mind shout. Takes a lot of planning, but can open a devastating surprise attack against a whole room without exposing yourself to any threat.
--TKT. Multi-shot spells own all my offensive options in limited testing so far (I think burn might still be a good hammer in certain circumstances). With good preparation (like having time to drop quads on the ground, and being willing to lose them), this spell is definitely my kill-fast option.
--The cyclic spell change/invis spell change. I can use RF and other spells without having to put RF back up. And with a feat, I can do the same with SOV. Ninja team go.
--Moongate. We can leave it now and come back! That's awesome.
--Dazzle. Moved to vs fortitude stat test. This is HUGE considering everyone has like 5 stackable vs will barriers, and the vs fortitude target stats are, currently, the most under utilized stats IMO.
-Sleep/Teleologic Sorcery. These are some great options for immobilize, sleep, and paralyzed disablers, but the effective penalty of those effects is so Derp right now, I have a hard time cheering too much. Still, I think that will be fixed.
-Psy shield. Yeah, ablative will barriers are insane. It takes forever for someone at level to chip this away (which is the case for several will barriers from other guilds I've tested too), and it blocks a lot of barb roars.
Sweet.
-Alleged change to locate. No more insta-locate immunity via +approximately 650 hiding ranks. I haven't tested this well, but the GMs were clear that it would no longer be the case. Having one's ability to hide from locate actually based on some kind of skill check will be...huge.
Underwhelming:
--Shear. This might be better once I figure out the exact equilibrium of what I can cast through it while still blocking a certain range from others. As it stands, people blow by it with capped spells, and it forces me to up my own casts to about 75% of the cap, at least (that's the part I need to test more), making it pretty worthless. If you're coming to a PVP fight with anything less than capped potency/integrity/mana in 3.0, against someone with a capped barrier, you're doing it wrong, and that easy adjustment by my opponents makes my shear pointless. Add to that the fact that it is drained by AOE and I'm very meh on it. I'd much, much rather have a cyclic TM/ranged nerfer.
--Rend/Dispel. They do not work for me at level. They contest the same stats as most of my disablers, and don't seem to have any scaled advantage. Thus, if I'm fighting someone with will barriers up, and I need a vs will disabler, I'll just chip away or try huge mana. I think this will be tweaked some, as failure to do otherwise voids the whole point of the dispel system. These need to be vicious strategic options when cast at caps. They are not as the stat contest currently scales.
--IOTS. Way too hard to use. Planets are never cooperating and we have no beacon shard equivalent. This spells is: "Every month or two the planets will happen to be right when I need this." It should be design canon by now that wildly unpredictable and often-unavailable spells aren't real great for us. That said, I love the ritual spells, and this is our only one, so that's cool.

Very few are keeping their OP 3.0 stuff close in hopes it survive, others I believe have a hard time understanding why their hax is hax. This is a great idea for a thread, I'm gonna log into 3.0 today and look over some stuff myself.
One thing I noticed last time I played was that I was throwing my tempered broadsword (think it weighs 25 stones) and it was using my LT skill and doing lots of damage. Just didn't feel right, heh. I'll take a look at some of the Barb related things and try to figure out what's hax, but I don't think there's a lot since our guild was just basically re-created.

I tried thinking of something that seemed OP as a necromancer but couldn't come up with anything. All of our stuff is pretty much the same, and the additional spells we have gained were to fill the giant hole in our spellbook.
PRO's
Our zombies when fully buffed up are pretty damn nice for PvE which help me hunt higher than I usually could, but against other people they die pretty easy if the person knows what they're doing. They are good to put on offensive and try to get a few good whacks in for PvP though before they can be dealt with, but that basically requires you to babysit it and try to keep the other person immobilized with spells instead of using TM.
VS and USOL are pretty awesome for killing multiple things, while very quickly locking TM and Debilitation. Again this is pretty darn nice for PvE but from what i've seen and tested in PvP the lack of defensive penalty provided by immobilization doesn't help the inaccuracy of USOL to be viable against a person at level.
Quicken the earth constructs seem to be a bit more potent now since they only use one defense (evasion) nothing OP though or anything.
CON's
Worms mist when cast at the far range seems to contest self cast buffs.
No multi strike spells or DFA.
Vivisection doesn't seem very powerful in comparison to Blood burst, and seems harder than normal to stay in hiding while casting it. Since it will out you if somebody see's you its way more practical and smart to just come out of hiding by casting blood burst and then hiding a split second after, that way its alot easier to keep the spot effect off of you.
Like Mockerjb said about shear, Worm's Mist has the same faults and capped spells blow right by it. I addressed that issue before with one of the GM's and asked that this could be looked at since once the spell breaks the barrier it hits with full force and is not blunted by the spell whatsoever. Basically its a all or nothing type thing. Plus from the testing I did, Worm's mist didn't seem to be any better of a magic barrier than shear since I tested with somebody close to my magic ranks and we put our stats in the high range about the same. Basically we broke the barrier in both aspects at about 60-70 mana cast and basically took the same duration of a disabler as when cast without barriers up. So basically we got a magic barrier, that we either can't cast any magic if cast at close range, and if cast at far range we have to advance to at least pole range. Plus we don't get any of the nifty secondary effects like spell reflect and what not.
Just wondering, are longbows still godly TkT ammo? heheh

Sweet.
Yeah, Redeemer's Pride is the same as this.
Demrris' Resolve is very easy to just cast at the cap and stun someone, and rinse repeat over and over again. I think diminishing returns for status effect(stun, immobilize, unconscious, etc) spells and roars will do a great deal of good to curtail some of this craziness.
Rage of the Clans is great for improving accuracy, but due to the damage caps it really doesn't help much if you're using a dagger. Plink plink plink :P
Abandoned Heart is nice because it actually uses TM to target the enemy's Spirit health. Great for people who stack up on physical damage reduction spells.
I feel OP just being able to stack up a bunch of spells :/ But I guess that's a result of -only- having cyclic spells before in DR 2.0.

It's really, really hard to gauge Barbarian abilities against others since we're so fresh at the moment. The Inner Fire thing is part of the reason, and not being able to cap our abilities since we don't have the skills is another. I haven't tested against Leilond yet so I imagine most of my tears have yet to come out, but everytime I've went into test there's only like two or three people there. We need to find a good standard day to jump in.

Re: Challenge: Most Hax on 12/22/2012 05:04 PM CST
Doesn't have to be a comparison. I am definitely not comparing mine against paladins, clerics, and bards (barbs I know nothing of right now). I'm just saying when I log in and go putz around against stuff, compared to 2.0, I think the abilities I listed seem very neat/have lots of pvp potential. I think getting legit responses in this thread without caveats is going to be like tearing teeth out, but who knows. Worth a try, we'll all know and trash talk the hax sooner or later.

Re: Challenge: Most Hax on 12/22/2012 05:27 PM CST
Well, I'll try. I just logged in since I can't remember all my abilities, heh.
Serenity meditation seems ok, I don't think it's the best barrier around since you have to stack it with Swan dance to achieve the desired effect. I think Serenity alone (if capped) is supposed to block up to 75% of a spell, if the spell is prepped higher or capped it will blow by it. I think Serenity + Swan + Turtle is a great combination and probably makes Barbs the best at anti-magic when we're capped, but until then we can get hammered at fairly easily.
Contemplation meditation seems to be decent for an overall defensive bonus. In terms of effectiveness, it seems to rival the combination of Piranha form (evasion/balance), Monkey form (reflex), and Tornado berserk (shield/stamina). I wasn't blown away by either setup, but when I combined all of them together it allowed me to dodge/block all of Tsaru's shots. I went from losing 16-23% of vitality on each of his shots to completely dodging/blocking. I think with the current Inner Fire setup I can put all these up for a short amount of time with nothing else up, but then my inner fire would still deplete rather quickly. Definitely no room for all of these + offensive buffs (like how khri is currently).
Tenacity meditation is great for absorbing damage. I see myself using this sometimes instead of defensive buffs, especially if I feel I can take my opponent down quicker than they can kill me. Why waste so much Inner Fire putting up defensive buffs if some damage absorbtion would be enough for me to take my target down before I go down?
Volcano berserk was broken, not sure if it still is. I'd have to test with someone on it.
I can't really give any cons, since I'm still not sure how well most of my abilities actually work. Hope that helps some, and it's nice to see how other abilities work. I'll have to get a better understanding of every guild to learn how to fight them better.

Just ran this in test. Quick log in intercessors.
I used meditation fill to refill inner fire while my abilities were running. I went from defending well to getting obliterated when I dropped my abilities. I am completely satisfied with the overall Barb defensive boosts.

Ouch. Thanks for that test...definitely shows a solid difference in defensive ability. wouldmlike to see your thoughts/results with all possible offensive buffs.
I did a test previously and noticed about a 20% gain...meaning a 14-16 hit kill turned to 10-12 hit kill. Sort of underwhelming for weapons prime IMO but I am assuming all guilds offensive boosts feel this way in 3.0?

Cleric spells are balanced by a net penalty to total magic ranks by 15%. They also have drawbacks in some cases, such as only function vs undead, but in general, the severe penalty to a prime skillset is nasty. Barbs don't get a -15% to weapon(s).

Ring of spears and rain of fire are probably pretty out of tune. If the goal is to slow down combat, clearing an entire room of critters at melee with two pulses of ROS (roughly 40 seconds) probably isn't doing it.
Every pulses you get a chance to hit each critter up to 5 times. Needless to say you just faceroll all the critters and clean up cash wise, skinning and looting when they're dead.
You pretty much kill things as fast as they spawn. Which is great, when everyone else's ability to earn coin is reduced.

>>What cleric spell isn't OP hax? thats what i'm wondering.
well it's a hard call with healme and spell preview for everyone, but from my experience for pvp in Test-
that Sanyu Lyba house pet thing of theirs- those things are horrible... just horrible to have to deal with.
Idon's Theft was obnoxious as well, I never saw anyone try and cast a stolen spell, so I don't know if they'd need sorcery, but having 3 spells of mine made unusable for a few minutes in under half a minute- very obnoxious.
Soul Attrition(?)- I'm guessing since few people have a decent spirit defense barrier, this might be a bit OP, it's pretty much always killed me in 3-5 pulses. No clue on how big the cleric was though.
Ghost shroud sounds like it could be bad depending on how much of an increase it adds, but if it's just a cyclic ranged barrier spell and doesn't have a reverse effect like AC that doesn't sound too bad.

Fire Rain doesn't actually do that much large damage at or near level, it's more about lots of little hits that open things up for a big attack, or just slowly whittle them down. It's more effective/hits more per pulse than 2.0 though, or if you throw in disablers. Fairly similiar to how it is now, just now we have near complete control of the spell.
ROS- is pretty similiar to how it was before as far as strength/damage, just with a lot more useful since it doesn't drop when you try to leave, retreat, advance, or touch something. It(and rimefang) always ate things up pretty fast that didn't have armor/thick thing.
Kind less OP hax now since we can't have Rimefang, RoS, and Fire Rain all firing at once, like we could before.

Can't say I agree. I can obliterate full rooms of baby gryphons at 250 ranks. Like I said 2 pulses, maybe 3 at the most. It's definitely not slow or whittling.
Yeah, they're never heavier than a light hit or so (between 1-5 with the subs), but it's 4 to 5 hits every pulse and I clear rooms of critters much faster than I can with anything else at all between all my characters.
It's pretty OP.

lol, I don't outclass baby gryphons. I can't even touch them with 222 ranks in my main weapon and I can only fight them with defensive buffs up. But I can kill them all and quickly with ROS and FR just fine at 250 ranks of TM.

250 TM + targeted magic mastery feat. 222 is probably also near the bottom end of what you need to hit them, at least on prime.

Quartz gargs are indoors- how's you get fire rain to work? Or did you use ROS?
And I can leave FR up for minutes without killing head-splitters, and I can kill adult dillos normally rather easily.

<<I can't think of any pallie hax.>>
Tried putting up DA and all absorption/warding/glyph stuff you have for a tank attempt? I haven't tested anything against a paladin in weeks, so curious if it feels as awesome now for them as it did then. The sheer damage absorption potential was absolutely, well, tank.

Not that it's OP or anything, but I'm curious if it's supposed to be stripping off engagement at missile range. I've had Moon Mages zap back to missile range, and I just FACE them at missile range and then they still teleport again which removes the engagement from the ASSESS even though I didn't advance them or anything.
I'm going to end up just making a trigger which auto-faces whenever the Moon Mage teleports out of engagement just cause it's mega-annoying to have to type in FACE MOONMAGE every 4 seconds :P
(gotta be FACING your opponent for cyclics to work on them in 3.0 :/)

The cleric has to prep the spell and win the contest, and I thought they only got one steal per cast. So I either don't see how that happened or clearly don't know enough about the spell. Anyone chime in?
