Hi,
Quick question about global caps.
Let's say I'm a moon mage with a capped Seer's Sense up. Evasion is in the MM SOI.
Then I pick up swirling winds as a scroll spell, and cast that at cap.
Will Seers Sense & Swirling Winds stack? Or will their be a global cap issue.
Thanks!

My understanding is that they stack up to the cap. So if you can't max the bonus from one or the other, stacking them might let you get to the cap when you otherwise couldn't.
How this works with other casters I'm not sure. I would guess that if you cast something non-SoI, and someone else cast a spell on you that boosts the same skill and it is in their SoI, it would stack to the higher cap (but I'm not sure). And it might depend on the order the spells are cast in...

From previous discussions, whatever buff you cast (be it from sorcery, guild magic, or some other buff) will be at your cap for your guild. So if you are a Moon Mage and you cast an Evasion buff, it's at the cap. If you cast Swirling Winds on top of that, it doesn't matter, you were already at the cap (for Evasion). Stacking the same buff isn't supposed to do anything.

SOI only determines how powerful your spell can be - It's not strictly related to global caps in terms of things like ability bonuses, combat bonuses, etc.

The way I'm reading this is, SOI indicates how high the cap of your bonus is for a particular buff, which is different from the global cap as far as combining multiple spells is concerned.
i.e. just because you have Evasion under your Sphere of Influence and cast an Evasion buffing spell at the spell cap doesn't mean you're at the GLOBAL cap for evasion, you're just at the cap for Evasion buffing as far as an SOI buff is concerned. So if someone cast a different evasion buff on top they would stack, up to the global cap.

That's sort of true - Different spells have different semantics. The main thing, though, is that SOI just affects the quality of your cast, NOT how much you can be bonused. If evasion is out of your SOI and somebody (with evasion in their SOI) casts an evasion buff on you, you'll get the full benefit of their SOI, since they did the casting.

Quick summary using made up numbers,
- A caster that DOES have a skill as a SOI receives a bonus of X ranks for that skill at the mana cap. This bonus is the same whether it's cast on the caster or someone else who does NOT have the skill as a SOI.
- A caster that does NOT have a skill as a SOI receives a bonus of Y ranks for that skill at the mana cap. This bonus is the same whether it's cast on the caster or someone else who DOES have the skill as a SOI.
- X is greater than Y.
- X is less than or equal to the global bonus cap for a given skill.

>>So I guess the next questions are: Are SOI primary buffs at the global cap?
- A caster that DOES have a skill as a SOI receives a bonus of X ranks for that skill at the mana cap.
- X is less than or equal to the global bonus cap for a given skill.
So to answer your question, SOI buffs that are capped are -more than likely- less than the global cap, but we'll need a red name to confirm to be 100% certain.
