After a brief time in limbo (on the order of 12 years) the Mind Shout spell is now live.
It is an esoteric psychic project debilitation spell that costs 2 slots.
It attempts to stun everyone at the location of your moonbeam. Buyer beware when picking your targets.
Thanks go to Socharis for finally green lighting the spell and Rigby, who wrote much of the messaging long, long ago.

>>Less MM spells, more Bard spells. Ricinus is making you look bad. :)
I was going to convert a Bard spell today before deciding the spell I had in mind was better off not making it to 3.0 (I don’t believe there’s a huge demand for a cyclic athletics booster) and realizing all the other spells left to convert were spoken for... so then I wrote Mind Shout instead. Does that count?
I have about a half dozen sweet Bard spells I want to write, but they’re currently slated for post 3.0. I’ll see if I can pull some of them in early, but it’s a long shot – The way my schedule works I tend to have a few days where I can do a lot of coding (which just ended) and then several days where I can’t do much (which is just starting) and I do have some other non-magic related projects that are near the top of the 3.0 pile as well.
If you wish to discuss Bard spells further please relocate to that thread so I don't have to hide from the Board Mods.

Doesn't work in forest geni
>cast katamba
You gesture.
An image of the local surrounding your moonbeam briefly flashes before your eyes.
[Wilderness]
Fallen leaves rustle with the movements of a thousand crawling insects. With no birdsong to add a melody to the eerie rhythm, the crackling and whispering becomes the murmur of an unseen voice in the night, coming from nowhere. You also see a forest geni, a pool of black shadows and a massive old oak tree.
Obvious paths: north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, northwest.
Blazed trails: none.
You release a wave of psychic energy with your Katamba moonbeam as the focal point.
A disturbing psychic howl echoes through the area.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

Re: Mind Shout on 11/29/2012 03:34 AM CST
After playing around with it some more I realized it's possible that my targets were resisting the effect but it's hard to tell if they are or the spell just doesn't work on them at all. Any chance we could get messaging when someone or something resists the shout? The target gets a message that they're resisting your MS but the caster only gets:
You release a wave of psychic energy with your Katamba moonbeam as the focal point.
A disturbing psychic howl echoes through the area.
Roundtime: 3 sec.
Or does that messaging tell me that everything in the room has resisted MS? Same message as casting in an empty room without any targets. Another moon mage cast MS at 75 mana with no stun to the geni and the same message - although it did stun me while we were grouped. Don't know if its intended that your group is affected or not.
Also tried using MS min prep + 15 cambrinth mana against granite gargoyles and rock trolls with the same result.
Min. prep Mental Blast worked easily on all 3 targets (geni, gargs, rock trolls). Different spell I know, but I wanted to see if they were more resistant to psychic attacks.

Re: Mind Shout on 11/29/2012 04:32 AM CST
Ricinus found and fixed a nasty bug with the difficulty of casting MS (Whoops?).
I cleaned up it's behavior when cast in the same room as you.
I also added a message for resisted hits (I sorta left this out on purpose to cut down on spam and sorta forgot to include it. Pick your own adventure there).
Bonus points for the first person who manages to kill themselves with this spell.

First off lemme say that I love this far more than I thought I would... if I could find a way to make my moonbeam auto follow me I totally would just for this spell alone. I do have one request though granted it is small and easily looked over if not indulged.

[bug] Mind Shout on 11/29/2012 11:04 AM CST
Caught a small typo in the spellbook description.
The Mind Shout spell generates an indiscriminate mental attack, similar to the Mental Blast spell on which it's based, at the location of a focused moonbeam. Be warned that it's possible for this spell to feedback on the caster *if *too those assaulted are of strong enough will.
I think those words are supposed to be reversed. On a Moon Mage spellbook related side note is there any way we can have Sovereign Destiny show up in the TS chapter? I know it registers what you have learned and what you have not but the other three show up just fine. I partly want to make sure the info reads properly and partly to make sure that it will in fact show up when learned post 3.0.

On the topic of spell messaging--don't play a MM so I don't know if this has been updated, but:
>An image of the local surrounding your moonbeam briefly flashes before your eyes.
Should be "locale". And technically, a "brief flash" is redundant. Minor stylistic quibble... there's a fair amount of such repetitive text strings in the game, but I figured since we're on the topic :p.

It seems geni still don't give any interaction with Mind Shout. I am able to successfully stun marbled angiswaerds.

A disturbing psychic howl echoes through the area.
You sense your psychic energy scream through Skaen's mind.

Actually, no, it should be 'local surroundings'. 'Locale surroundings' is incorrect. It could be; 'you briefly get a flash of your moonbeams locale'. Also, 'briefly flashes before your eyes' isn't redundant; it's describing the temporal [briefly] and qualitative [flash of a vision] aspects of the experience.

I was testing with my friend's MM, and it seems that whenever a target resists MS, it uses the caster's name instead of the target's. This was cast with two people in the same room as my Katamba beam:
You release a wave of psychic energy with your Katamba moonbeam as the focal point.
You sense your scream leave <caster> unphased.
You sense your scream leave <caster> unphased.
A disturbing psychic howl echoes from the west.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

This will be fixed in the next push. It was actually an artifact of the old description.
