That's how I've been doing it. I don't think it's ever intended for the magic prime guild sorceries to be what you start out with, at least the current ones.

The same way every other guild does? Keep in mind SOD reqs SET and TV reqs TF, it was only a quirk of how I set them up that had the higher 'tier' spells (I know, I know, bad term to use but I don't have a better one handy) as easier to cast.
I'm considering lowering SET and TF's difficulty, but I need to have that discussion with some other people first.
It may also be that we need to make sure there's some universally viable ways to learn sorcery at low levels if classes/off-guild scrolls etc aren't cutting it.

>>if classes/off-guild scrolls etc aren't cutting it.
My thoughts:
Classes - with so many other magic skills to learn, and the ur-magic skills learning for every spellcaster no matter WHAT they cast, I foresee the chance of wandering into random "elemental/lunar/holy/life magic" classes dwindling. That, compounded with the inevitable "you're a moon mage why are you looking for an elemental magic class you must want to learn sorcery my big brother is higher than you and hates sorcery" makes me feel like learning early level sorcery ranks from classes will be tough.
Scrolls - Haven't done much hunting in test, ergo haven't acquired a scroll. Can low-level characters invoke them? Do they drop often enough that they are viable as a reliable trainer? Is the backfire risk worth using scrolls to train up to the requisite 100 ranks in sorcery for the feat that helps lower said risk? I don't know the answers to these questions, so I can't really weigh in here.
Those are my concerns, though. My suggestion for making the first ranks more obtainable: let AP spells teach a bit of early sorcery. It makes some kind of sense lore-wise, and it will make the AP book more attractive early on, before guild spells that are essentially better versions of the AP ones become available.

>>Drops are scant.
There are magic shops that sell low tier guild scrolls. My understanding is that GMs might also bump up the scroll drop rate, too.
>>Can't invoke a spell from a scroll from another guild until you have 100 scholarship and the magic theorist feat.
You don't need to learn sorcery right out the character manager. I don't think it's intended, either.
>>Learning from scrolls is buggy.
How?
>>And if you die, you can never learn that spell again. Well, at least until they fix the bug.
Yeah, but like you said, it's a bug.

<<There are magic shops that sell low tier guild scrolls.>>
all right, purchased this with a different character:
<compost scroll> listed on ranger list as an introductory spell.
You recall proficiency with the magic feats of Legerdemain, Silent Preparation, Faster Targeting, Faster Battle Preparations, Faster Matrices, Faster Rituals, Alternate Preparation, Focused Preparation, Augmentation Mastery, Debilitation Mastery, Targeted Mastery, Utility Mastery, Warding Mastery, Improvised Rituals, Cautious Casting, Injured Casting, Deep Attunement, Raw Channeling, Efficient Channeling, Efficient Harnessing, Cautious Harnessing, Improved Memory, Magic Theorist and Illusory Preparation.
347 scholarship.
329 arcana
58 sorcery.
>read my vell scroll
You can't make sense of the gibberish on the scroll.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
Why can't I read this scroll???????
My understanding is that GMs might also bump up the scroll drop rate, too.

>>I'd guess that scroll hasn't made the conversion to 3.0 mechanics, in which case you'll need to wait for the shop to be updated or try a different spell.
This is correct.
