Because they haven't been added to the crafting system yet.

That much I'm aware of. What I mean why is it you can craft almost every tool for every other craft out but the two tools you really can't do without in alchemy can't be?

Because development time is a limited resource?

There really isn't an answer other than "Because it hasn't been implemented as an option yet."

How much longer would it have taken since they coded all the rest of the tools for alchemy. Sieves, mixing sticks, pestles....

I'm guessing longer than Kodius had time for? He's also taken some different approaches as he's released disciplines to fix design issues that have cropped up over time, and this may have been a decision that was made for that reason. Only Kodius knows the answer though.

I won't argue that Remedies is one of the hardest crafts at this time, and this is one of the reasons why, but there are multiple sources to get master-crafted bowls and mortars so it's not like there are none available.

I've been looking for some for a few weeks now. It's why I brought this up. If you know where I can find one better than the one in the society hall, please share.

Aside from the Beyond the Barrier quest ask around. I found one pretty quickly when I bought my bowl.

Aren't the random mortar/pestle drops in the loot hopper also mastercrafted now despite the grubby appearance? Not sure how good those actually are.

I can't remember if all of them are but some of them are. Check out critter loot drops and you'll find mastercrafted mortars and pestles.

There's non-mastercrafted but better than basic storebought sold in several places. Just around the immediate Crossing area, Tiger clan has a kit with one, and the premium shop in the Crossing premium area has a kit with one.

Here's a list of all the documented mortars on the wiki with their sources. Most don't have their stats listed and many are likely fest sources, but it should provide a way to find them. There are probably some missing that haven't been documented.

All the creature stone mortars and grimy pestles I find these days are mastercrafted. I collected several sets. I wasn't able to dye them though, but I haven't tried lately to see if that's been fixed.

Grimey Marble Pestles are Masterfully crafted, and I haven't seen a chipped marble mortar dropped anymore since the drop update but it was masterfully crafted, but the stone mortars are decently crafted or something now.

You analyze every minute detail of the stone mortar and smile knowingly to yourself.
This appears to be a crafting tool and it is in pristine condition.
Used with a pestle to crush and prepare plants into usable herbs.
The workmanship is masterfully-crafted.
Assessing the mortar's durability, you determine it is marginally vulnerable to damage.
This tool appears to be extremely ineffective at increasing crafting speed.
Roundtime: 10 sec.

Both were found recently. So at least some of the stone mortars are masterfully-crafted.
