I made one of those fancy parquet tables today for my home, but had a bear of a time trying to actually replace the table in my home. HOME HELP only covers furniture obtained via the ORDER-based shops and wasn't any help that I could find, so I played various syntax tricks with my new table...
I'm not 100% certain this is bug, but at one point I did manage to have two tables in my house, both listed in the misc #1 slot. I had used HOME REMOVE to get rid of my previously purchased table, and got a voucher for that. Back to the basic oak table, I was trying various verbs on my new table until I figured I could see if anything would work after I DROPped it. Nothing seemed to work until I tried to pick it back up, at which point I found out that the table was now affixed to the house. Cool! Except it wasn't in the room description, but in the "You also see..." part. And the old oak table was still there. Another HOME REMOVE command showed both the new and old tables listen in misc #1 slot. I couldn't HOME REMOVE the old table, since it was now the default table, but at least HOME REMOVE on the new table gave me a voucher instead of the original table, which I was able to just go give to the clerks to replace the table.
So, ultimately, if this isn't the intended manner of replacing furniture with played-crafted stuff, it did allow me to have two misc #1-slot tables. Whee!
For some reason you just can't stop thinking about glarmencouplers.

Home furniture must be in deed form to be installed in your home. The deeds themselves behave a bit differently and include information on how to use them IIRC.
