Crafting with tinker's tools doesn't seem to give a message. At least not crafting the small music boxes. Here's what I get:
You get some metal tinker's tools from inside your haversack.

Shaping with a wood shaper is needed to further smooth the material's surface.
Roundtime: 15 sec.
Just a blank line and then the line of what to do next. The wood shaper and carving knife both give the normal messages when used:
You get a jagged wood shaper from inside your haversack.

You flip a small unfinished moabi music box over and begin to shape it with your shaper. Your experience shows in the smooth, expertly-shaped surface of the wood.
Additional adjusting with some tinker's tools is now required.
Roundtime: 9 sec.
Tinkerer tools worked fine making a Latchbow, just for point of information.
