I haven't seen any information on what exactly is going to be required to craft an item out of the new lore system but I have seen mention of patterns. The talk of rare patterns being drops or sold at auctions got me thinking. Very often rare items go out by these means and get vaulted, lost, not picked up in the first place, the owner takes a break from the game or never comes back at all and the game is left without the benefit of this item being around. What I think would be cool would be a way for someone with appropriate scholarship skill to copy a pattern X amount of times within reason.
Example - bare with me
For instance one of the GM's holds an auction where he sells a rare smithing pattern. This pattern for the sake of the example would be at its best possible condition - pristine. The character who purchases said pattern then goes to one of his friends with a good amount of scholarship skill and has him create a copy of the pattern, one that for the sake of this example is at the lowest quality - poor. This new poor pattern will work exactly like the originial pattern in all ways except since it is the lowest quality it could not be copied. The original pattern then looses some of its quality and moves down to say superb.
This system would allow for people with scholarship to be able to provide a service to pretty much any other crafter and would be able to make some coin off of it. This also allows the original purchaser to make copies of the pattern and make some money back immediately if they should choose to do so. We also could have special merchants come out that can repair patterns allowing them to regain some of their ability to be copied, or even have as a open roll easter egg allow the scholar to not damage the pattern during the process.
Thoughts?

Well I think I posted this before but I play AOH as well and their language learning is pretty neat. You buy a basic language scroll of the language you want to learn, you study it and put it down for an hour, then continue studying it every hour for a total of 100 times. Then the scroll disappears and your ready for the intermediate version of the language, rinse wash repeat of studying mentioned above, then on to the last phase which is called advanced. Each scroll has to be studied 100 times and the hour time limit is in-game not out-of-game time. You can't start another language until you have completely learned the entire language set.
As far as interpreting at basic level you'd understand every third sentence when that language is spoken. Intermediate is every other sentence and advanced is every single word.
I see the possiblity to do something similar here in DR. Except perhaps to learn the language you'd have to study an object in various different areas. You might have to go on a mini-quest to gain access to that area where the stone tablet resides. Similar to the job system perhaps? I don't see the need for a tdp cost but I'll leave that up to the GM's. As far as the scholarship is concerned, I agree it should be at least 150 scholarship to learn another language and to copy it you'd need 200 in scholarship and quite a bit of teaching as well. Perhaps 150 in teaching? Because you have to be coherent when applying what you've learned to a scroll or piece of paper.
Note: Just so that everyone is aware, the Trader's commodity pits sell papyrus. Perhaps the commodity pits can be put to good use by selling items to the general populace versus between commodity pits that it is now. Plus I believe Moon Mages have the ability to make scroll paper from skins of certain critters too. So the Trader's would not have a monopoly on the paper business. And if it were open it to alchemists.. Just my two coppers.
