Mining, yes, I think it should happen, and soon. So what do we know about the proposed mining system so far? Or is it even proposed? People will be able to pan and dig as ways to mine. Are there going to be crude gemstones that will be required to be cut, via someone with jewelsmithing before they can be sold, or will we be literally, dig, dig, dig pick up a large amethyst, dig dig dig.

If you're a Warrior Mage, you'll be able to simply will the earth to move out of the way, making it extremely easy to find rare gems and metals. No need to dig.
My guess is that gems, minerals, and ores found while mining will be in rough and/or impure form, requiring a gemcutter or metalsmith to craft the raw material into an item that can be used or sold.
