There's nothing stopping you from pulling completed mechanisms with the press. Not that it seems to have an effect:
glance
You glance down to see some steel mechanisms in your right hand and some steel hooked pliers in your left hand.
>pull my mech with press
Upon pressing the second button, a horizontal press slams a portion of remaining ingot against a wire draw with many different-sized openings. Woth the pliers you mold each strand of molten metal into springs, fasteners and wires.
The metal quickly cools and you collect each component. After adding them to the existing collection of gears you are left with several complete mechanisms.
Roundtime: 2 sec.

> We were making gears out of different metals. The maker could mastercraft audrulam haralun silver platinum and other metals but steel never came out mastercrafted even with press turned down.
My suspicion is a messaging bug with analyze that's causing it to reverse the quality messaging.

Tier 1 mechanism ... storebought steel, storebought pliers, with techs: Simple Gearworking and Tinkering Specialization
... way much Engineering,
And those mechanisms turn out exceptional!?
Color me really confused.

I was finally able to get master crafted mechanisms when I started with master crafted steel.
Who KNEW the steel you bought in the shop was so shoddy! As a carver, I was completely stunned. Our Engineering shop provides us with better "basic" materials.
Even with a materials tech, the mechanisms were quality 90. :( Which also surprised me.
This quality problem could be a serious problem for Engineers. Not everyone forges. I certainly don't.

AFAIK, you can't refine non-metal materials (for now?), so those types get a pass. Anytime I buy bronze in the forge for WOs, I smelt it, then refine it, then mix it with my silver/gold/etc.
Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

But we're Engineers, not forgers.
... color me pretty unhappy about this.

>>Combine seems to be too permissive:
I don't have the memory to track the metal details for mechanisms. All that is stored is the ductility and quality. When combined, those values are averaged together.
It was my way of keeping things simple... avoiding the need to carry around 10 different sets of mechanisms. Does that make sense? Do folks really want it to respect the metal type?

The material was not affecting the difficulty. Which itself was a bug :P Most likely you were seeing a problem due to the ingredient quality.
I've fixed this so now the material should affect the difficulty of using the gear press :) Granted, it is a very basic operation so I don't expect most people would have any trouble.

How does it determine the final metal of the combined mechanism? Whichever one is in your right hand? The one that is input first in the combine command?
