The biggest draw of this movie to me, from watching the previews, was watching previews of Helms Deep, especially the scene panning back over the legion of orcs with thousands of pikes risen into the air.

Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed by this. While it was depicted as epicly as I had expected, it seemed to have some continuity problems. Events just seemed strung together for some reason and views changed a bit too rapidly for my taste. I was hoping to see more tactical maneuvers or large melee fighting, but the camera kept jumping around too quickly to see more than just what was generally going on. Of course, I was sitting in the very back of a crowded theator, so that could have contributed to it.

The irony of this, though, is that it is making me more likely to go see it again and get the DVD so I can look over every nitpicky situation to see exactly what is going on. Heck, when the extended version comes out I will probably spend an hour or two just watching the Helms Deep scenes.

For favorite lines, it is a toss up between Gimli talking about where dwarves come from and him trying on the chain mail.

The Battle of Helms Deep was incredibly done. The deadly precision that those moronic orcs worked with when working as a collective kept me on the edge of my seat during that battle. The ladders already manned with a dozen or so orcs as they were being flung up on the walls, the battering ram group working together and using shields to help block the arrows, the grappling ballista, the whole deal... very well done and definitly one of the better part of the movies.
