You're not alone.....

British Columbian here. Wait, did I just admit that out loud?

I have yet to visit the Calgary Stampede. Maybe one of these days.

Only in Canada eh?:

Just saw this chuckle

Traditionally only a "Habs" fan would resort to kicking them when they're down. Nice to see the Leafs inspiring a new generation of on-ice enemies.

Thanks for the chuckle.

Please don't speak about french-canadians in such a way. I don't think separatists need to be portrayed as traitors to Canada. I would appreciate if you didn't associate both ideas like that.

Sure are Country killers to the rest of us Loyal Canadians.Don't have much use for people that say there better then everyone else with there "Distinct Society as they call it.Where else in North America is it illeagl to put up a Sign in English.
In the rest of Canada it's law to have english and french on products,in Quebec it only has to be french.Give me a break.Gee wonder how much the economy has fallen cause this distinct society has made the country unstable.

<<1) Our Premier was arrested and charged with drunk driving, pleaded no contest to the charges, and he's still in office.>>

Don't forget the part where as soon as he lost his license he raised the gas tax by like 5 cents a litre.

<<Please don't speak about french-canadians in such a way. I don't think separatists need to be portrayed as traitors to Canada. I would appreciate if you didn't associate both ideas like that.>>

Ummm what?, your saying seperatists who wish to break away from Canada---seperate, are loyal to Canada?, that statement in itself contradicts itself totally. Either they wish to be part of the country or not, going totally out of their way to do everything in their power to not be a part of the country at all sure doesn't make them fully loyal to Canada in my view.

Beliel, a very happy British Columbian.

Oh and don't forget Kelyan, Lodgex and Blueskye another three British Columbians.

Actually it is illegal to have only english on products in Quebec. What is illegal on labeling is to have English as very big and the french in little tiny labels. As long as the french label is present and in bigger lettering. Both are still required just like in the rest of Canada.

I just refered to the word traitor. I am a separatist, I don't feel like a traitor to my country. My main reason for being a separatist is a cultural one. Both cultures (french and english) do not share the same values. In that light, I think protecting our culture and "distinct society" is necessary.

As soon as the constitution of Canada recognizes french speaking canadians as one of the founding nation, I will stop being a separatist.

I think the country was founded by both english and french and needs to be recognized as such constitutionally, only it is not right now.

Not to create a debate, I just don't like to be refered as being a traitor.

French Culture has been babied in Canada for years at great cost to the rest of the country. Trust me I work for the CBC I know the stuff we have to do to keep you guys happy, heck you guys even get a massive portion of the public broadcasting money for a way smaller audience. The seperatist movement is simply ridiculous, if you guys had won at the Plains of Abraham maybe you'd have an arguement but at this point you should be happy where you are and with what you get

As Beliel mentioned, yes I'm another British Columbian. I want to congratulate those in the Vancouver area who will get to experience the 2010 Winter Olympics. Having lived in Calgary during '88, I guarantee the games will be an amazing experience.

Snow in Vancouver? More than an inch and they call in the national guard grin Should be a fun time for the Vancouver folks though.

So what happened to that Toronto gathering idea anyway? Whiskey Saigon, Spikes at the docks, Guvernment, anywhere you can get a beer... post a week in advance and I'll get the first round.

I'm up for a Toronto get together but please god somewhere I don't feel like I'm a hundred years old. It would be awesome to talk face to face with people who don't give me that blank pitying stare when I go on and on about DR.

I'll get the second round.

...buncha mainlanders. Where are all the Newfies?

Manditory Newfie joke:

An Ontarian wanted to become a Newfie. He went to the neurosurgeon and asked, "Is there anything you can do to me that would make me into a Newfie?"

"Sure it's easy." replied the neurosurgeon. "All I have to do is cut out 1/3 of your brain, and you'll be a Newfie."

He was very pleased, and immediately underwent the operation. However, the neurosurgeon's knife slipped, and instead of cutting 1/3 of the patient's brain, the surgeon accidentally cut out 2/3 of the patient's brain.

He was terribly remorseful, and waited impatiently beside the patient's bed as the patient recovered from the anesthetic.

As soon as the patient was conscious, the neurosurgeon said to him "I'm terribly sorry, but there was a ghastly accident. Instead of cutting out 1/3 of your brain, I accidentally cut out 2/3 of your brain."

The patient replied "Qu'est-ce que vous avez dit, monsieur?"

Heh. I actually lived on that island for a few months. I was a kid and mostly remember mud and slush but coming from Souther Cal I thought it was neat that you didn't have to drive to the mountains to see snow!
