I just soloed a T-38 for the first time and it was awesome!! I'm just pumped and wanted to tell everyone...heh. Hopefully I'll eventually get to bring the fight to some terrorists from the air, but for now, baby steps... Stay safe everyone.

Cool. You know those T-38s are some old planes. I recall hearing their engines running up early in the morning over 35 years ago at Williams AFB.

The T-38 Talon first flew in 1959. More than 1,100 were delivered to the Air Force between 1961 and 1972 when production ended. I believe 509 planes are still active in the Air Force and are used for joint specialized undergraduate pilot training. Mainly because of their design, economy of use, ease of maintenance, high performance and exceptional safety record.

They are a rush to fly, Jared. Here's to a successful career!

Some quick hints of advice Jared for when you become a full-fledged zoomie:

1. Crew chief's love beer...remember this when you over-G the jet...and yes you will do it at least once

2. Keep your pencils in your pocket...there will be plenty of time to write on the ground...::grumbles about 12 hours looking for pencils, finger lights, and other dropped pilot objects.

3. This is the most important: If you drop, spill, or miss your piddle pack, do not even think to ask your crew chief to clean it...there are paper towels inside...

Thanks for the advice, I always try to keep the people happy who keep me alive. I can say that thus far I havn't pulled too hard (though many friends have), have kept track of all pencils and like items, and never flown a mission longer than a 1.3 (thus not requiring said piddle pack).

As for a little update, I've since graduated and gotten my wings. As long as I can pass the centrifuge (not even a little fun...just pain) and Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals (which people certainly wash out of) they're going to send me to learn to fly the F-15E Strike Eagle. I'm pretty happy about that. Nothing against the Viper, but I'm a huge fan of two engines. The C model is nice, but I'd like to blow stuff up on the ground. The Hog is cool, but I like going fast.

Merry Christmas all!

Congrats. F-15's are nice..though those Pratts are annoying high pitched at idle. You will understand this when you get to your operational squadron. With that airframe you have a great chance to get to go to Kadena AB.

Enjoy the banana!
