Just a thought; what about doing Chicago for simucon 2016, gobal city etc?
Its a pretty sweet venue in comparison to St. Louis. I'd literally be willing to start organizing and help pull this together if the staff and company are amenable.
If this is in any way feasible or if you want me to lay out a rough sketch feel free to contact me via e-mail. I can get a really cheap group rate at some really nice hotels in the heart of downtown.

Re: SIMUCON 2016 on 08/22/2015 04:26 PM CDT
Moving SimuCon has been discussed numerous times, but it never gains traction for quite a few reasons that aren't changing.
1) Simutronic's head quarters are in St. Louis.
2) St. Louis is very central. What this means is a fairly significant chunk of people are either locals or do a one day drive from various parts of the East Coast. If you move the convention north or south a good chuck of those people are now looking at having to fly or a two day drive (All the folks from the Texas area in particular if you were to move to Chicago). If you move it farther East you have the same problem (though this is likely the most viable option) and if you move it to the West you potentially let some of the West Coast people drive (Though most of us would likely still fly...) but all of a sudden ALL of the East Coast people have to fly.
3) Everyone knows the St. Louis area at this point - they know where the good places to eat are (And they're within walking distance of the hotel), we know where we can get reasonably cheap hotels (And it isn't large enough to get major group discounts anymore) and so forth.
... and that thing about GS4 vastly outnumbering DR this year was totally true and you'd want to be on the SimuCon forums for a better discussion.
Since VegasCon stopped we've long discussed trying to find a replacement but nothing ever gained traction. Before his passing Socharis and I (mostly him) had started on plans for a NorthwestCon that would alternate between the Seattle area and the Portland area. I believe he had found a giant house he wanted to rent in the Seattle area but I don't have any further details on it and I really don't know what the showing would be like out here - considering DR only had about a dozen people between Staff and players at the Con this year (GS4 had us beat at least 4:1).

Re: SIMUCON 2016 on 08/22/2015 04:35 PM CDT
Traditionally DR has had a slight to significant edge on GS4 for attendance. This reversed somewhat a year or two ago and exploded this year.
We haven't been able to put our finger on why (Are they adverting to their players more?) though part of the fall off for DR's attendance is that a fairly consistent group of the attendees were the same group of friends who mostly haven't played DR for quite some time and would just come to hang out with each other and some of their old DR buddies. In the last few years that group has been setting up their own events that eat up their fall vacation time (And I think they may have finally gotten tired of attending a convention for a game they no longer played.)

<<Jadyce and I (maybe a few others) were discussing what it might take to have a small gathering in the area a while ago. We'd both be glad to help set up or at least attend such an event.
I'm not quite the Seattle/Portland area, but am only a hop, skip, and a jump over one international border away. My friends often take day/weekend trips to either or of those two cities, so I could easily be convinced to attend something if it was planned well enough in advance.

Maybe an unofficial dragonrealms con in Chicago this winter... I'm gonna organize something this could be fun.

Are we frontier neighbors, Absolon? Am I not alone here in Alaska? The difference between Seattle and St. Louis isn't profound in the sense of airfare for me ($151 vs $242), but it is airfare either way. Therefore the location isn't an issue for me!

<<What I remember about Portland is that I swear downtown Portland has a Starbucks on every block.
It's a west coast thing for sure. In my neighbourhood there are no less than 6 Starbucks within a 5 minute walk, two of which are literally across the street from each other.

Not related to a con, but Dallas has a ton of 'hipster' coffee joints which are actually pretty good. Little over priced if you want a fancy-latte, but the base coffee is usually good, and isn't that terrible chicory crap community hawks, or the horribly burned stuff starbucks pawns off.

Oh I live in Absolon's town.

I'm not sure about elsewhere, but in my hometown some Starbucks have Express kiosks, so it's basically a Starbucks inside another Starbucks (across the street from Starbucks, of course).

I think I knew that, although for some reason I thought you have moved east for school or something.
Blaayd lives here too, iirc. Probably a few others.

When it's not raining. Haahahahaaa....
The only trip I have planned so far is London in Feb/March but if PortlandCon or even SeattleCon happens, I will definitely go as long as my other trip doesn't overlap. I miss the west coast.

Bit late to this party, but someone mentioned the lack of VegasCon. Sounds like it might be happening in Mid/Late February.
I'd still try to attend something in the NW, but I'm low on vacation days this year (half day over actually).
