Can someone let me know when exactly the events start and end for Vegascon? The announced dates are Thursday through Sunday, but do organized things start Thursday daytime, or Thursday night? Or perhaps most helpful would be, when do most people arrive and leave? I'm considering basically asking for VegasCon for my birthday (2 weeks after con), but I was curious as to what times would be best for plane reservations.

I'm not a planner, but if it's anything like years past, sign-in will be around 4pm or so Thursday afternoon. Some people (Illcram) will start partying the night before. Sunday is pretty much clean-up and goodbye time. I personally try to fly out by Sunday early afternoon, but if that flight isn't available I have to go with a Saturday night or Sunday night redeye flight (flying to BWI).

I hope that info helps a bit.

Actually a lot of people tend to show up on Wednesday night, these are typically the people that are the last to stagger out of the penthouse in the wee hours of the morning.

Last year on Wednesday night there was a group of people at the bar drinking, as well as some suites with parties going on. Two years ago there was maybe 20 people and we staggered to this dive bar down the corner. Most people tend to leave on Sunday.

Gulph had it right, check-in begins officially Thursday at 4:00pm. Sunday morning is mucking out the suites.

Starkad, I owe you a drink for oh so many reasons.

I'm looking at going to Vegas early this time, so I can spend some time with my non-DR friends for my birthday before the Con actually starts. So, Raycha, if you end up arriving a day or two early, you're welcome to hang out with us! We'll probably spend time touring the Strip and hitting the roller coasters.

Thanks everyone for the quick, helpful replies. I'm a bit wary of getting there early if people mostly go to bars, since I'm not 21, plus I should really stay and go to class.. but it helps to know when people tend to show up and leave. Good to know Sunday is mostly a leaving day, and doesn't have stuff like Sunday at SimuCon (I can deal with getting home at 3am Monday in the summer, but not if I've got class Monday morning). Anyway, still not sure if I can go, airplanes are really expensive(!), but if I can I'll be posting again looking for roommates. :)

I went when I wasn't 21 yet either. Was pretty fun and although some people went out to the bars I was having too much fun to notice. Plenty of people stay close to the hotel.

Try looking at travelocity and expedia websites for airline tickets? I was finding tickets from Las Vegas to Tampa, FL roundtrip for ~$206.00 yesterday. Dunno how reliable they are for getting you on a plane though.

As someone who travels quite a bit, WHO you buy your ticket from doesn't matter. At the end of the day travelocity/expedia/orbitz don't sell you a ticket with your name on it, it is an airline ticket. Another thing is just because you are buying your tickets uber early, doesn't mean you will get the best price. As an example Continental and American Airlines have been having price wars on and off, a ticket I bought a month in advance was like 100$ more than a ticket I bought 10 days in advance due to thier on again off again price wars.

Also expedia charges like 5$ for booking your ticket. Most airlines allow you to book online with no additional fees...booking directly from AA or Continental I save around 5 dollars a flight.

Personally I think those websites where you name your price are a bit of a crock, but I have little patience to take 3 connecting flights at 2am to save 50$. Definately shop around and don't be in a rush to buy tickets just because you want to book extra early.

P.S. I don't think I am going to have to buy a single drink in vegas this year :D
