State of the Con
Well... It's Nevada. You know, between California and Utah.
Actually, wanted to give you all a real sort of Situation with the upcoming Con. Few things to talk about...
Attendance: We are looking at a slightly smaller attendance then last year. Speaking with Doc we had around 134 folks last year, with 79 pre registered. This Year we are looking at 71 or so pre registering not counting the GM's. Alot of folks pay at the door. So I'm thinking the reports of the death of the Con have been greatly exaggerated. It will be a party as ever. =)
Hotel Space: The rooms bought are on the low attendance side. At this rate, we will not be able to get the second room. I'm not going to tell folks they need to change any plans they've made to the Frontier. I am going to ask that those of you who haven't decided, please do what you can to make your arrangements soon, and that you please make it the Frontier. The more rooms we get, the more likely we will be to get that second room. If we end up a few rooms short we might buy the missing rooms. If you are planning on coming and paying registration at the door, I'd urge you to at least put your hotel plans in motion with a room at the frontier. In case you might not know, you only have to put the first night on a credit card or something upfront, you still pay on the day you leave. So it won't cost you any more.
Now why is this so important? We are going to have roughly the same attendance, and if we don?t get the 50 rooms, we won?t get the second room comped to us. That means instead of making a profit for future generations of Vegascon goers, we will have to spend money on the second room (since we have a high attendance) and all that money from the extra attendance, all the profit, goes to getting the second room for us to party in. It would just be a good thing to get the room comped instead of course.
I would also ask if you have made your arrangements with the Frontier, please give them a quick call and make sure your room has been applied to the Dragonrealms block. If not, please let me know and I?ll go raise (un)holy hell.
Raffle: A few people have put up items for the raffle. And they've been excessively generous. I fully expect people will get more generous at the convention. It's human nature, but I'm still taking donations pre convention.
Scavenger Hunt: Krinahd is charge of this, and he and I are going to get together next week to plan the items to be picked up. Plan how the teams will work. I want to ask if you think we should also use film or poloroids for it? For instances,
A matchbook from a specific hotel might be worth a number of points?
Getting a picture or video footage with someone who is an actor in one of the vegas hotel shows would be worth a lot of points (it?s harder to do)
But then again it depends on folks having access to a digital camera or digital video camera. So I?m thinking pairing folks up with teams of three to five, with at least one person being a person who brought a camera.
How?s that sound?
Alrighty, that?s all I wanted to talk on. Hope that helps put everyone?s minds at ease about the attendance and just how big a party this is going to be.
