These really, really, really shouldn't be linked. I just wasted 2 hours waiting for dark-alignment magma, only to be unable to complete the quest because I prayed to Ushnish while not kneeling (and praying while kneeling afterwards didn't give credit, because it was on Devotion cooloff). By the time prayer timer was up, the crevasse had moved, so I have wait even longer for black magma.

Infusion and Resurrection were fun, this is like slamming my hand in a door.

I think you confused the steps; the quest prayer performed at the right place isn't linked to devotion timers at all. :)
