You are wearing a tattered and torn wrapped cloak of burgundy nightsilk, a rough leather haversack with a carved bone clasp, a polished leather morawen with a katar and a katar secured to it, a scrimshaw banded backtube, a half-length charcoal grey vest, a chain lorica, some soft tan leather armbands, a small pearl-studded ironwood shield with a leather-wrapped handle, a carved dragon-engraved pick, a scarred leather craftsman's belt, a low-slung belt with studded steel panels, a glossy ebony-black sheath with darkened silver fittings, some loose burgundy nightsilk breeches, some light tan legwraps, a bone-beaded suede thigh sheath, some tall hiking boots with steel reinforcements and an iron-banded parry stick with brown leather straps.

I need a second, or multiple other opinions. If you have a moment to spare, do you think that this attire is too lengthy in description? If so, how could I go about shortening it? I tried to keep most of the items simple in description. Also, do you think the description matches the picture below in my signature?

All opinions are welcome!

If I looked at you IG and saw all that, I would just skim over it and not take the time to read it. Sorry. But I did read it here, and I noticed you have a lot of weapon holding containers. Your description is about 10 lines long in an 80 character wide window. The weapon containers alone account for 2.5 of those lines. In the picture, your character doesn't look like a walking armory. A haversack or a leather haversack and a plain pick would cut out some letters. You might stow the parry stick and shield while you're not using them. I don't know how important the above items are to you, but they're not in the picture, so I edited them out. I'm left with a 5 line description, which I would read.

Only item I'm questioning is the armbands (and the legbands, if they're supposed to look similar to the armbands). In my head, it ones you're wearing IG don't look tattery enough to match the picture. I love the cloak though! Also, I don't know if any of the items I edited away are important to your RP.

I love seeing that some people care about text based clothes. You'd be amazed how many people don't wear pants. Best of luck!

Finding pants/shirts that fit with armor, don't weight more than the armor, and don't look like a neon peacock is nearly impossible.

I like these. They're quite fitting for my character, I think. 5 silver in Ilaya Taipa.

Ahh, thank you for the very thoughtful advice!

I have a few dilemmas.

First up, weapon containers... I need weapon containers for my dual katars, for my blade, for my light thrown weapons, and for my heavy thrown spears. Sadly, I'm a weapon training freak, and I am whole heartedly against the philosophy of getting one massively big container to hold everything on my person. Rather, I believe in getting a container that fits each weapon appropriately. It doesn't make much logical sense to me, and in my opinion it also doesn't have a shred of aeshthetical appeal, to keep all of my weapons in the same container. Given that, that is the reason why I have the morawen(For my katars so I can dual wield both of them at once), a belt sheath(For my blade, though I will admit that the sheath I have is way too fluffy), a backtube(For my spears. This is about as basic as I could get it unless I get rid of the "scrimshaw banded" part. It's the backtube I grew up with though, so I'm kind of attached to it), and a thigh sheath(For all of my other light weight throwable items).

Second dilemma--Is there a way to test container size? I was timid to get a regular haversack for fear of it not holding as much as the one that I have. I'll definitelly get the non-description variety pick though next time I see an instrument shop.

Third runner up, the shield and parry stick. I actually have an altered description of my shield that I need to get done, changing it into "a small forearm buckler". Honestly I hate the parry stick, so I will make more of an effort to keep it stowed outside of combat. It's just really useful inside of combat though, which is why I practically always have it out.

I originally wanted armwraps to match the legwraps, but the only arm armor that was similar to that were these armbands.

Your description is about the max I'd bother to read in game, although it must be said that it's far shorter than what I usually see walking about, so good job caring about that!

I am a huge proponent of head-to-toe item sorting, which it looks like you've roughly done. Honestly, I can understand your logic about the containers, but tons of containers really bug the heck outta me. I admit that's more a personal pet peeve than anything else.

Generally, I think it's a good idea to simply take off any items you aren't actively using. All of my characters remove all armor and stow shields out of combat, and my Bard wouldn't bother to wear her pick when she wasn't playing her faenellica. Thus, my edits would be:

<<You are wearing a tattered and torn wrapped cloak of burgundy nightsilk, a rough leather haversack with a carved bone clasp, a polished leather morawen with a katar and a katar secured to it, a scrimshaw banded backtube, a half-length charcoal grey vest, a low-slung belt with studded steel panels, some loose burgundy nightsilk breeches, a bone-beaded suede thigh sheath, and some tall hiking boots with steel reinforcements.>>

While I like the verbs on those new weapon containers, like the morawen, I mourn that they're going to put YET MORE into a character's look that my character honestly wouldn't really notice when looking at someone.

Regarding the picture, I would echo what the previous poster said about not seeing your character bristling with weapons. You might look for a big, all-purpose weapons container, and rationalize it that your character is hiding the weapons from plain sight to be more of a deadly surprise. :)

I'd agree with most of what the previous poster said cept the comment about the new weapon holders. I always thought it never made sense that sheaths in game held tons of items and you should be able to tell what type of weapon someone is holding in a sheath simply by looking at it while they are wearing it. (hilt sticking out and such) That being said I'm very happy that people can see a scimitar hanging from my belt nowadays and my characters discription is still only 6 lines

What's the best way to tell how much something can hold? If I can get another simpler haversack that holds roughly the same then I'll do that.

I've used the rough haversack you have, and as far as I can tell, its the same size as my blood splattered haversack and haversack from Aesry. I think standard sized haversacks can hold 12-13 boxes.

As far as weapon gear, I use a harness, and assume there are straps on it to hold multiple weapons. When you wield or sheath, the container name isn't shown to the room, so I just pretend my giant morning star actually came from my harness and not my haversack. Its not ideal, but it keeps my outfit length down.

Alright, so far I've swapped out the old pick with "a carved pick", and I plan on swapping the old thigh sheath with just "a tooled thigh sheath. I just did a search on what haversacks look like, and I hate them. I'm going with "a shoulder satchel" now. I've ditched the parry stick in a container until I actually need it.

Now, one of the final things that I need is a sheath for my blade instead of the super fluffy one I have. Does anyone know where I could get a "hard" sheath, or something to that effect? Not a leather or cloth one, but anything of hard or supple material?

You mean like a scabbard? What is the size of the blade you use?

I don't wear pants. It's not a fashion statement, it's an encumberance issue. Since it was the pants or one of the weapons, I decided to run around with a backpack, shield and sheath and a big ol' smile. I promise to wear pants when I'm at a point that I can train my stamina.

My friend had a leather-wrapped wooden sheath (Dark cherry wood gleams through a crisscrossing of well-oiled leather strapping on the long sheath.) which instantly came to mind. I don't recall where it was worn, maybe back or shoulder. I have no idea where you could find one, but a pretty blade deserves a pretty home.

I looked through the shop catalogs online, I think most P5 shops were missing, but I didn't find anything that sounded hard, except for maybe the fish scale sheaths from Aesry. But, well, they're made of fish...

I traded the haversack you mentioned in your original post (a rough leather haversack with a carved bone clasp) for this one (a rugged leather haversack). I believe the rugged haversack is from Hib and was under a gold dokora in price. They seem about the same size to me, but my character isn't really one to load up her backpack until it's full (encumbrance issues.)

I just saw your character in game and I have to say that the description was only about 3.5 lines on my display, which I don't think is unreasonable at all. (Four or fewer is what I shoot for, personally.)
