G'day,
The first of 3 lore related releases mentioned a few days ago is now live in Prime and Plat, and will make its way to Fallen assuming disaster does not strike.
So, what exactly does "Getting There" mean?
Ever wish you could study a climb and get an idea of how difficult it would be? Or how about how deep water is, or how fast its current runs and whether its something you might be able to swim in?
Well, now you can, using the ever popular APPRAISE verb. You will be able to appraise most climbable things in the game, with some exceptions. This does not currently support the cliff mechanics (the ones where you climb a few feet at a time) nor will it likely work with climbables that have their own code to handle the climbing (such as the stairs on Aesry).
For appraising water characteristics, you can appraise the portal leading to the water (i.e. appraise the brook before you go into it), appraise water to learn about water conditions in the room you are in, or appraise <direction> to get information on the water conditions (if any) in the room in that direction.
Needless to say, this wasn't test with every example of swimming or climbing locations, so if you notice areas were you are not able to use this feature, please either post on the boards or BUG it in the room the problem is occurring.
Next week: Staying there.
Enjoy,
Godrich de'Finchal

We are lost!
We can never go home"
