My understanding is that the noun of the item you make offerings with is all that matters.

Can this be looked at in that case?

> get hammer
You get a tiny hammer from inside your thigh bag.
> put hammer on alt
You reverently place a tiny hammer on the chrysocolla altar.
> pray
You begin to pray, kneeling before the altar. A sense of peace and tranquility fills you as you murmur softly.
K>
You feel a sense of shame as your offering is thrown violently from the dusty surface of the altar.

I think the issue is from this bit:

> You feel a sense of shame as your offering is thrown violently from the *dusty surface* of the altar.

Yeah missed that and had a cleric clean it. Same result (different text):

A tremor rocks the ground, shaking an chrysocolla altar and sending the tiny hammer tumbling to the ground.

FYI, you don't need a cleric to clean altars anymore.

But you do need holy water AFAIK, which is thin on the ground in Ratha.

At the shrine of Chadatru on Ratha, you can find holy water. It helps to know where to look, though!
