Hello all,

I took a one year hiatus and now find myself nearly completely in the dark with the new experience system. My barb character is currently hunting maruders and creepers/vines. He locks quickly in shield, multi, and armor; but it takes a while to bring weapons to a decent learning state at 20 or so less ranks than previous mentioned skills. I think I should increase intelligence just on principle or maybe strength to hit harder and fill weapon pools quicker? Any advice is appreciated.

Strength : 24 Reflex : 16
Agility : 16 Charisma : 17
Discipline : 15 Wisdom : 19
Intelligence : 15 Stamina : 21

I would recommend not changing your mentals at all if it's just for better experience gain. If anything it might make your job harder because how fast you can fill your pools is not stat dependent. Intelligence just increases the size of those pools while wisdom increases how fast they drain. A bigger pool will only mean more work for you as will a fast draining pool.

What are your skills like, particularly your shield, multi, armor, and weapon ranks? With overly swarmy critters like creeps and vines it can really easy to push defenses much farther than weapons, especially when you have primary weapon pools. You might just need to find a different creature or just work on your defenses for a bit.

Strength and agility affect weapon round times and how hard you hit. Weapon learning is based off of how much damage you do. So yes, I would bump str/agil to get faster and harder hits with your weapons.

Training mentals will not help the learning rate any faster unless your Discipline is in the toilet and then you could be losing some exp, but it would have to be extremely low. I found Creepers and Vines to be excellent for defenses and could easily lock parry evasion shield and multi there up to about 130-140ish ranks but weapons slowed WAY down at about 100 ranks. Head up to the super Woodies and Marauders to train weapons a little faster or head to ratha and do leucros/swains.

Actually just last night shield and multi slowed down a bit and my mind state quit getting destroyed so I guess I am not increasing intel just yet :) I think I will train agility up a bit (hadnt thought of that) and maybe bump strength up to 25. Thanks!

I'm not really sure what you're saying here. The only way you 'lose' exp is if you continue to train a skill that is already mind locked, and that has pretty much nothing to do with discipline.

I thought I had originally read on these forums that sub 14 or 15 Discipline did not utilize all the bits of xp per pulse, apparently some were lost. I recall testing this with commoners about a year ago and the difference was minor even at 0 ranks.

Of course now that I look at the original post I see he is above 15 disc and it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

I've never heard of this before. If any exp is 'lost' I would assume it is just to rounding/truncation.

Then I bow to experience. This was long enough ago that I don't remember any specifics of the test anyway. Thank you for correcting me
