The overall mana levels I've observed have gone up slightly from before. Especially in the lower mana rooms which I think is a result of the stated change to low mana rooms.
Some concrete numbers for low mana rooms- in Prime on the Ratha green I sense hazy elemental streams with 255 PP. I can chant Faenella's Grace at around 12 mana and maintain it. Higher than that I eventually run out of attunement.
In the test server I sense dull streams. I can chant Faenella's Grace at 18 or 19 mana and maintain it. Its a very noticeable and very welcome change.
In higher mana rooms, my ability to maintain enchantes hasn't improved much if at all. At most 1 more mana song invested, but I think the differences I noted at this level may be more related to the timing of the enchante pulses relative to the attunement regen pulses than anything else. If they line up at the right time I can compensate from the higher start-up cost better than if they don't line up well.
Overall, I think the intended effect is happening insofar as they apply to my characters. More consistant mana levels and an easier time with low mana rooms. I can't speak to the aim of providing benefit to those with over 540 PP since I don't have a room based user at that level.

Re: Overall Mana Levels on 05/22/2009 11:04 AM CDT
Glowing isn't guaranteed to be the 'same' for each mana level because the ranges are different (i.e. smaller and smaller) as you go up. I.E. for the lowbies it's just akin to saying 'bad, normal, good' for mana.
Glowing is sort of the medium mana people should expect to see at that level of perception.

So for example using made up numbers is it:
1. Weak senses can sense mana level 1 to 5 so glowing is mana level 3 or so. Normal senses can sense mana levels 1 to 20 so glowing is about mana level 10 or so?
Or is it what I was trying to say before (badly it seems):
2. Weak senses can sense mana level 1 to 20 so glowing is somewhere between 6 and 13 for them since thats as precise as they can get. Normal senses can sense mana levels 1 to 20 so glowing is mana level 10 for them since they can tell more precisely?
Basically are the ranges relative to skill or fixed?

Your mind hears Zeyurn thinking, "<chat>" "Fifthly, this mostly won't affect anyone here unless you roll newbies.. at low PP skill there are very few mana levels."
Your mind hears Zeyurn thinking, "<chat>" "Specifically at 0-20ish PP there are exactly 3. Dim, Glowing, and Bright"
Your mind hears Zeyurn thinking, "<chat>" "So based on your PP skill (you only need 80ish to get the max) there are 3, 5, 9, or 21 different power levels."

Yes I know that. Its in his post as well. But it doesn't state what those power levels represent relative to eachother. That is what I'm asking. What do each of the levels sensed by a weak senses mage translate to when compared to a normal senses mage? And so on.
If its a one to one relationship there's gonna be a lot of confused people when they hit 20 ranks or so and suddenly their third level 'bright' mana starts messaging as developing senses since what they normally perceive as second level 'glowing' is now the third level under developing senses.
I get the feeling I'm not communicating what I'm trying to say very well... table to the rescue!

I'd like to chime in with the "Please don't switch the bard messaging back to how it currently is in Prime" group. It's much more intuitive this way.
As for us "hearing" the mana, I've never really liked that idea. I guess I don't really like the idea of other guilds "seeing" mana, either. I've always thought of it as a sixth sense beyond both hearing and seeing, so I guess I just think "sense" would be a better verb for all guilds perceiving magic. That's just my random opinion, though.

Yup, this stuff is kinda neat. People see or hear or smell numbers. Or they'll see sound as colour.
While in RL this isn't something that you can learn (see the link below,) I can certainly envision in a land of magic that people could be trained to see/hear those streams in various ways.

The bard mana messages were a dog. I literally recorded myself saying "One, two... twenty" and attached each sound to its messaging. Then I got Genie and just set up subs like:

15/20 Mana (brilliant)

QFT.
I had to make a script to translate bard pp into "regular" pp so I could understand it.
The new messaging, even though its aural, seems MUCH easier to understand, which I appreciate.

Re: Overall Mana Levels on 05/22/2009 08:51 PM CDT
I slightly broadened the range of all mana levels. This means it may appear that mana levels globally went down when you perceive, but they in fact did not numerically change, it's just the messaging you get changed. This makes it so blinding on normal senses is properly both the absolute maximum and the same range as all the other mana levels.
With that in mind, it looks basically like this

Wonderful. That clears a few things up for me. Thanks for the table.
I'm planning on doing a more thorough comparison of mana levels both in Prime and in Test as well as across skill and same-mana-type guild. This makes making sense of it all a bit easier.

Yeah, it was implemented with a lot more complexity than my original suggestion. When I initially suggested 'sound' rather than 'light' based messaging I was expecting only a couple words changing in any power perception phrase... sound can flicker and pulsate as well as light, after all. All that was really needed was something aural in place of 'glowing' and 'shining' and such, and 'deafening' in place of 'blinding.'
But anyway... I haven't had a chance to test this one yet, but I do like the basic concept of each guild sensing their mana differently, even if it's only a different color.

Speaking of which... my cleric and paladin both got 'golden Holy mana' when I was collecting the various mana messaging. Was there supposed to be a difference there like with the other same-mana guilds?

As Adera told the Mentors on 5/20 in an email on the WayBackChannel, the Testing Central boards are:
"a new private forum for everyone on the CL, mentor, host and Plat team to post. As always anything discussed there is to remain super sekret until told otherwise."
Anything that is discussed on this forum is confidental and not to be discussed on the Prime forums or shared outside the group.

I didn't know this. I also didn't know that stuff in Test was supposed to be secret. Not like I've had time these days to broadcast it or anything but I'll be careful. It would have been nice if the first post by Solomon in the Test GM Announcements folder had explained some of this information.

Anything on the test server that is different from Prime/Plat/TF normal mechanics should be treated as secret unless you are directly told otherwise or see a GM posting about it on the regularly accessible boards.
From Zeyurn's post about the new PP system in the Testing Central GM Announcement's folder.
"This is Beta, which means we're kind of happy with it but want number feedback (very similar to Exp), we're not sure if we're happy with the exact values yet, so no sharing with non-Testers because we're not quite solid on things yet."
