Most other guilds have a spell or ability to determine the location of another person. I think a neat meditation would allow a barbarian to sense a general direction of a specific person. A bonus to this skill could be that it's much more effective at finding other barbarians, homing in on their inner fire, and possibly keeping tabs on it. This is generally how I envision this ability:

MEDITATE FIRE VISION JOFRO

Meditating deep within yourself and analyzing your own burning inner fire, you can clearly recognize the traces of inner fire of Jofro burning to the northwest.

<time passes>
You sense Jofro's inner fire suddenly burning much brighter to the northwest, he must be in a berserking rage.

<more time>
* Jofro was just struck down!
You lose trace of Jofro's inner fire as it is extinguished, the last flicker was from the northeast.

Just an idea that would be cool I think.

I have to disagree. I wasn't suggesting something that lets you know precisely where someone is over great distance. Also, in the meditative state, you recieve visions of your own inner fire; I don't think it is out of the question to be 'aware' of another fire.

You begin to meditate upon the fire, your inner fire swelling as you center your mind, body, and spirit.

Slowly, as you grow calm and balanced, a bright white flame begins to waver in your vision.

Deeper into the flame you go, your mind racing forward until you finally reach its essence.

Surrounding your reflection is a brilliant aura of pristine quality burning outward at twice your height.
You feel a jolt as your vision snaps shut.

That being meditation as it is right now. It doesn't seem too far fetched to me that eventually you could be capable of entering a state of mind where you can see visions of others inner fire.

i disagree with this, looks like it's only showing general direction, not the room where he is

i'd be find with a barb being able to do this with another barb but as for others i don't see that

Correct. It should be quite neccesary that the barbarian (which seems to make the only sense really) is there to meditate on.

PS Which this makes the first part of my original idea not really functional, but maybe after initially meditating on someone, you can 'look' for their traces.
I also don't see how this is "telepathic." I interpret the messaging of looking into your own inner fire putting you into a trance where you actually see a physical representation of your inner fire.

Thank you for comments. And yes, this idea needs work, but it was something I also posted at 3:30 AM

I also like this idea for reasons already stated:

This one.

Sounding more like Scouting now.

I'm not trying to poopoo this suggestion. It just seems, well, not very useful in an everyday situation. I hunt alone, and, while sociable to most Barbs when I see them, I can't see the point of having an ability that lets us find each other.

Thanks for putting in your thoughts Maulem. I don't think every ability needs to be useful in everyday situations. I know I definitely don't use all of my berserks, dances, and roars everyday. I'm not sure how meditations are going to be learned in the guild, but it could be like the roar system and have to seek out different masters for different meditation techniques. This would allow you not to choose a useless ability for you, but something a social hunter would very much enjoy adding to their arsenal.

Here is another request for war dogs to sniff out your dead, fallen comrades!
While the idea isnt bad, it does seem odd focusing on someone elses inner fire. Meditations to me are completely internal. We use fire as a focus of concentration to view a reflection of our own 'inner fire' and being able to seek out another Barbarian because of their inner fire is akin to seeing their soul. Not to mention if they are dead they have no inner fire. I think this is one of the better ideas for war horns.

I agree, but am not ready to completely close my vision to just that.

<<We use fire as a focus of concentration to view a reflection of our own 'inner fire'>>

That's true, that is what we see as basic meditations.

<<and being able to seek out another Barbarian because of their inner fire is akin to seeing their soul.>>

I don't know. I think of it more as an empathy type thing from one Barbarian's inner fire to the next.

<<Not to mention if they are dead they have no inner fire. I think this is one of the better ideas for war horns.>>

Yes, a Barbarian will have no inner fire when they are dead. That's why you should use the meditation when you are alive. I do think it's a better idea for war horns, but still thought the idea deserved props.

Name: Death Cry

Requirements: 5th circle

Location: Somewhere interesting near Crossing/Haven that a 5th circle Barbarian isn't normally compelled to go otherwise.

Cost: Death

Benefits: You project your Barbarian essence in a death cry/shriek/wail/etc. Will carry to adjacent rooms. May carry multiple rooms, have an unbalancing effect, displace items, critters, and/or variable amounts of water. Legendary Barbarians may be heard in neighboring provinces. May be customizable/preset.

>
Joe arrives.

Joe goes east.

You hear a dull roar and a ringing in your ears as a hot, humid gale reeking of sweat and blood slams into you from the east, sending you stumbling and sprawling on your knees. You catch a glimpse of the goblin you were fighting being lifted into the air and carried west with a look of surprise expression on its face through your watering eyes, a brown liquid banner trailing behind it in the chaotic maelstrom. Some bronze coins slam into your back. Etc.

Joe dies.

Interesting and eww.

Take out the "drops you to your knees" effect. Definitely a bad thing.

Definitely take out the whole "banner" thing. Just...eww.

Seems a bit "powerful" looking for a 5th circle ability. Also a bit complicated. Maybe something as simple as making joe yell "Aaaaaah!" as he dies, so that it's heard in adjacent rooms?

I think a good meditation we could have would be something to boost our armor skill. As an armor secondary guild we don't have ONE ability at all that helps with it.

The example was exaggerated for effect. It obviously needs "minor" tweaking. Also, I thought it might be an innate ability or death-triggered roar vs. a meditation. I know there's a topic for those but I thought it fit the current thread.

The effect would obviously be limited to some preset "noise" at lower levels. But I do like the idea of more "noticable" effects at higher levels. I was considering including a mana/harness drop for mages in the surrounding areas for the example but figured it would get rejected immediately, even if it was meant tongue-in-cheek. Your suggestion is right in line with what I was thinking for the lower end of the ability. I think it would be great if we could customize the spoken "phrase" somehow to give them our own flavor. It would be no different than "yelling" to adjacent rooms.

Just seems like there was a need for an "Ellie's Cry" for Barbarians and thought this might be a little more along our lines. If we're going to be announcing our deaths, let's make some real noise.

Definitely a good idea. I would hope such an ability would be at least on par with YS in effect, duration and able to to used concurrently with other meditations and abilities.

Meditations that work well with dances would seem to be pretty self-explanatory I think. I'd like a few of the meditations (whenever they are released) to be berserk-friendly as well. Here are a few ideas that I think would work well for berserk meditations.

MEDITATE MUTINY (repost): Manipulates the inner fire into a raging tempest, causing most forms of magic to react chaotically when directed at the Barbarian. Contested spells may be fired back at the caster, targeted spells might suddenly find a new target at random (or go careening into the nearest wall), and area-effect spells might be hurled suddenly into a nearby room.

MEDITATE MORTAL: Already driven by berserker rage, the Barbarian's body is strewn with fresh wounds from the fight. The flow of the Barbarian's own blood purifies this righteous anger at the pyrrhic victory, granting the Barbarian additional power for every bloody scar. (Boosts concentration, inner fire, and vitality regen for every active bleeder the Barbarian has. Special synergy with Blood and Flame Berserk.)

MEDITATE SLAUGHTER: The corpses of freshly-slain foes littered about the battle-field inspires the Barbarian to new feats of madness. Zealous with evidence of the kill, the Barbarian is driven to always revel in one more triumph and to savor the slide of steel into one more unfortunate opponent's chest. (Grants an MO bonus to everyone in the Barbarian's group for every corpse on the floor. Special synergy with Grave Berserk.)

*******
Because it's a gigantic can of worms. Eldritch, necrotic, squamous worms, writhing in a vile stew of coagulating ichor, crushed from the living gullets of a thousand infant puppies, ululating in wordless terror.
