* BMR is going down substantially. This is a necessary change.
* MR's cohesiveness is most likely getting nerfed in a few ways, such as not allowing MR to reduce a spell's effectiveness beyond minimum cast. This doesn't seem like a bad idea at all to me.
* The door to player-created magical items is someday soon going to be blown wide open. This is a great change for MD, lore, and the game in general (more valuable player-made items = good). A completely unrelated side-effect is that the "no magic" clause will mean Barbarians are actually missing out on a lot more than they used to.
In short, BMR's cost is going significantly up and it's value is going down, rather significantly at the high end.
I think this is the perfect time, however, to blow the door to IF usage wide open. Berserks and roars both got "nerfed" but in place of the old super-berserk and the old super-roars we got two amazing new systems. Khris seem like they're about to be "nerfed" but the new system also looks drool-worthy.
I think now is the perfect time to petition for new uses for IF. Meditation suggestions forthcoming.

NOTE: I realize many of these run contrary to currently-established IF theory. A couple may even seem "magicish." Given that the "old" IF is one-dimensional and powerful, perhaps now that IF's maximum height is being chopped it's time to expand horizontally.
Tusfaov seems the perfect candidate to gradually introduce new meditations into the system via storyline. Perhaps he stops researching "A History of Mer'Kresh" and starts researching "Practical Inner Fire Theory and Applications."

Tusfaov says, "Every Barbarian knows how to channel the flames of their will into the forms of dances and berserks, for becoming one with your inner fire will naturally provide you with its power. Only the able Barbarian, however, can begin to truly understand the workings of his inner fire, and thus learn to channel it into hithertofore unseen ways. This meditation represents the first step on the path towards inner fire enlightment, as it is the simplest of outward inner fire projections."
MEDITATE STRIKE (Req: 30th circle): Increases the damage potential of the weapon in the Barbarian's hand. Though this "functions" the same as the planned Paladin spell Rutilor's Edge, it would work more like the Bard spell Harmony by attuning the Barbarian to his weapon of choice and boosting his attack potential with that weapon. It would be "self-cast" only (e.g., only gives you a damage bonus with the focused weapon, it doesn't actually affect the weapon's stats).
Tusfaov says, "Congralulations! You have mastered the cornerstone of inner fire projection into its natural reservoir: your weapon. Now unto an even more advanced technique: the outward projection of your fire. Inner fire is a whimsical mistress. She doesn't like being forced out of her home. Save learning to treat her gently for another day, however. Now we practice the fundamentals of outward projection. This meditation may lack grace, but it makes up for it with sheer brute strength!"
MEDITATE BURN (Req: 50th circle): The Barbarian suddenly expels a large amount of his IF outwards. The practical result is that any nearby target's mana attunement is penalized by the sudden introduction of IF.
Tusfaov says, "Something witty!"
MEDITATE SHIELD (Req: 65th circle): Sensing the annoying tickle of a targeting matrix, the Barbarian raises his inner fire like a curtain about himself, temporarily boosting his ability to evade the attack.
Tusfaov says, "You seem to have realized the full potential of letting your inner fire explode outwards. With this gift comes new talents, for now we shall learn some of the subtleties of inner fire projection. Though magic is forbidden to us, our inner fire naturally detests its presence. By letting our fire whisper sweetly into out ears we can learn to detect the taint of magic like a hound onto a scent. Thus listening, we can hear; thus hearing, we can locate; thus locating, we can destroy."
MEDITATE CHARGE (Req: 80th circle): The Barbarian projects his IF forwards, attempting to randomly destroy one spell matrix (e.g. magic boost) currently attuned to the target. The target must be within range of your weapon (e.g., melee or pole for pole-range weapons).
MEDITATE SNARL (Red: 100th circle): Lashes out with the Barbarian's IF, attempting to disrupt the spell pattern being prepared by the target.
MEDITATE MUTINY (Red: 150th circle): Manipulates the inner fire into a raging tempest, causing most forms of magic to react chaotically when directed at the Barbarian. Contested spells may be fired back at the caster, targeted spells might suddenly find a new target at random (or go careening into the nearest wall), and area-effect spells might be hurled suddenly into a nearby room.
MEDITATE MAELSTROM (Req: 200th circle): The Barbarian achieves ultimate mastery of inner fire projection and manipulation. By expending all of his inner fire in one fell swoop, he gains temporary immunity to all forms of magical assault. The natural balance between inner fire and mana, thus tilted to such an extreme, cannot be controlled for long (~10-15 seconds). Barbarians, which have so finely developed their attunement to their inner fire at this point, find the sensation overpowering, as though their very souls had been ripped from their body. There is a very real chance the Barbarian will die on his feet when this maelstrom ends. (Alright, this one probably won't happen, but it's neat to imagine.)
NOTE: I realize many of these run contrary to currently-established IF theory. A couple may even seem "magicish." Given that the "old" IF is one-dimensional and powerful, perhaps now that IF's maximum height is being chopped it's time to expand horizontally.

This is one of the neatest ideas I've heard in ages.

>>This is one of the neatest ideas I've heard in ages.
Of course one of the random effects would also be "the magic's power is actually amplified and hits the Barbarian with complete success."
I sort of imagine it like a Rugby scrum: with so much going on you never really know what the outcome will be.
>>Not a knock on the proposals, but it makes me thing of Diablo 2 a bit. Heh.
On reflection, there is a resemblance.
