Ive been reading alot of the boards since I got back and noticed a few things, and then observed a few things in game, mainly regarding magic. A mage's mana is half, if not entirely dependent upon skill, the same goes for the way he uses said mana and replenishes said mana. As Barbarians we can only regain IF thru killing creatures, and the amount of IF our dances soak up is a set thing. Well, What if Said Barbarian had two skills, the two skills being directly related to IF, one for the regaining of IF, i.e we meditate to regain and that trains the skill, and another skill to determine how we use IF and how much IF we can contain. Sure it'd be a pain to train but I really dont see any way to make our BMR, or Dances more effective other than adding skills for us to train, otherwise you'll have all the guilds wanted our BMR nerfed again so that they can feel "Special".

In war there are no innocents, women children, they all have the animocity to kill. The only difference is how much of a lead you give them in your sights.

I had this entire long post written out trying to set you straight on some facts about IF/BMR and magic but I said to myself, "Ah screw it."

I'll leave it at this though, our abilities, especially BMR get exponentially stronger as we level up and train stats.

Ehh, So do mages, only difference is they dont have to circle like mad to increase the power of the spells they wield.

Wrong.

Once a war mage caps out a given spell (lets say fireshard) adding more mana beyond a certain point is only useful to help them overcome resistance, it does not make that capped out fireshard exponentially more powerful.

On that note, who cares if a war mage can sit there and over train PM/TM... a ton of those spells factor in agility and other stats -- if they don't have the circles to begin with then its worthless.

Granted, this isn't the case with every spell, some are pretty lame and have horrible factors in resisting them (see mental blast and vertigo)

I've got quite a lot of stamina and very good charisma for my circle (30ish charisma) yet I've been vertigoed by people 20 circles under me. Now take that same war mage who can vertigo me (thankfully bear dance can fight this off) and have him try to LB me while im laying down holding a shield.

Whiiiffffff.

This is an issue with spells and their checks, not us needing a skill to overtrain BMR.

(Oooh Wow did you think when you wrought this or did you just plop it out there to prove what Im saying is right ? , More ranks = More power to break resistance)

Face it we need a face lift somethin fierce, I mean our BMR and IF were never meant to handle 500+ ranks of PM/harness/TM. Nor were they meant to handle Vertigo. Sort of pointless that we have to actually dance bear to counter vertigo when our IF should protect us to begin with. But hey thats just my opinion.

Actually I believe the resistance calculations are after the mana calcs so they cap the spell, then it hits resistance? Also held mana and cambrinth mana aren't calculated correctly for the resistance portion.

Also, ability to overcome resistance does NOT keep pace with even non-BMR resistances so we get whacky abilities on both sides trying to off-set problems. Maybe the more tier structured system to magic could be coupled with a better scaled MR system.

Stats seem to play more of a part on the higher-end than magic skills but that's true for a lot of systems.

All in all, it would be nice if MR and BMR scaled well as we increase in circles and we actually got some fresh or refrsher information on how it works in general.

Hey folks,
Further discussion on MR should take place in the MR folder.
