Must have Makers Mark to apply. Club will begin meeting in Crossing upon release of new lore split. Dues will be platinum kronar a month to cover the payment of a carver to supply rocking chairs, a blacksmith to supply darning needles, and a tailor to supply yarn with the remains going to contribute to the old forgers home (damn those orphans we need a place to retire to).
The Knitting Club will meet every Saturday in Crossing outside of the Barbarian forge, because hey...it will be the most unused facility in the city and we wouldn't want to get in the way of anyone.
A good time will be had by all.

Given Dartenian's recent overview of the lore split, Barbarians will be heavily focused on the weaponsmithing path.
Dump all your mech ranks into smithing, spend all of your techniques on making superior weapon templates, and push for some guild-specific weapon techniques that give Barbarians an edge (haha) at making superior weapons.
Given all of this I can see some creation-happy Barbarians with hundreds of lore ranks making superior weapons right out of the gate.

The problem is, these guild-specific techniques are (planned to be) circle based.
Barbarians have to either give up training Smithing entirely to train weapons to circle for Barbarian techniques, which are useless without Smithing skill. Or they have to give up circling (and Barbarian techniques) entirely to sit in a forge and train Tert lore(s) skill, which is also totally useless without techniques.
Other guilds do not have this problem, being able to train good portions of their circling requirements while in the forge, including many Primary and Secondary Lore/Magic skills. Earning them both guild based techniques from circles and learning Smithing 3 to 5 times faster as well.
Have fun watching the paper folders fly past you.

Serious question here. Why does it have to be one or the other?

To circle, bards need to hit the battlefield probably as much as barbarians since they learn combat skills at crumbier rates. if you see a bard in the forge, you can bet they're not circling. plus, playing a song takes two minutes, so it will likely be too hindering to do while trying to forge effectively.

For the same reason a trader will have to give up circling/trading to be the best in Smithing, you can only learn it in the forge.
I would like to see barbarian templates (all templates) be given out on Circle or smithing skills. 100th circle or 400 ranks in smithing gives you the same templates.

I was under the impression that all of the circle based templates would be a template slot that your guild focuses in, not a specific template. So a Barbarian would get a weapon smithing template slot at 100th, not Barbarian Uber Sword template, while a Moon Mage would get an enchanting slot at 100th, not Uber Teleporty Enchant template.

I believe things like this while not up in the are, have not been carved in stone. I think we should recognize the barbarian smiths that have given up circling to smith. Making it purely circle based would totaly stink.
Circle or a level of skills, different for each guild (based on prim/second/tert) must be used in determining when access to basic and guild specific pattarns are given.

>Circle or a level of skills
This is already what is going to happen. At certain levels of skill in any of the creation lores, you get a template for the system. At certain circles you get a bonus template from your guild. I believe it is a template slot, but I may have misunderstood.
>different for each guild (based on prim/second/tert)
I'm willing to bet you all the money in Elanthia you don't want this. It would most likely end up the way offhand weapon, armworn shield, harness regen, and spell slots went. Primaries would get them faster, secondaries medium, tertiaries slowest of all. I'm fairly certain this is not what you are asking for, and I'm fairly certain the GMs aren't going to give more slots to terts than to primes.

I'm failing to see why anyone has to give up circling to smith. Again, I'm under the impression that once you can make heavy slice scimitars... you can make heavy slice scimitars.
Your skill doesn't deteriorate over time and it's not like you can bump that weapon up to a great or severe slice short of using special, ultra rare metals.
So why is there a perception that there is some great decision to be made. You either smith or you circle. Frankly, I think a lot of folk are over reacting to a system which hasn't even been implemented yet.
Also, as an aside, I'll be doing basket weaving as my craft of choice. /me prays for underwater tech skill

Elemancer Opieus, I see no reason a barbarian (tert learning rate) should not get the slot/pattern at 100 ranks of smithing skill where an empath (primary learning rate) would not get that same slot patter until 200 ranks of smithing and a paladin (secondary learning rate) should not get it at 150 ranks of smithing. This is given that NONE of them have specialized.
Nor reason slots and patterns should have the same skill requirements between guilds.

Except it's against the entire spirit of the change. Yeah, no other reason at all. I think you're also misunderstanding how templates will work. Anything that will have a skill requirement or a circle requirement (as opposed to a template prereq) is likely something you wouldn't be able to make before then, so being able to get it earlier would only hurt you.

By the same token, moon mages should require half the weapon ranks of barbarians to be effective in combat because they're tert.
Come on, that proposal makes no sense at all.

Skill in lore deptermins the quality of an item. Done deal. Quality for a barb would improve at Tert rate and primary rate for an empath. Done deal.
What is wrong about getting the 'slot' for an item for spending the same amount of time working on the lore? At a different time depending on our learning rates. So your fizbit will be better than mine. Good for you! But by spending the same amount of time in at the same craft, we will both get a slot for fizbit at the same time. Time in forge = access to forging stuff. Time in the sewing circle = access to sewing stuff.
Fair right?

I just hope that smithing still requires a strong emphasis/need for strength/stamina. It would totally suck in any mansy pansy paper folder with pencil arms and the fortitude of a gnat can pound out items.

Agreed! The 70 strenght requirement for zero pound time is MUCH tool low. I believe you should NEVER hit a zero round time. Now if gold smithing is part of this, you can go with low strenght/stamina. But weapons and armor, no!
And Stanima! Forging items should take note of the stanima to swing a weapon. those weapons are balanced and made to be swung. A glowing ingot, is NOT balanced for swinging. I would think 2 or 3 times the stanima fore each pound or grind equivalent of an item should be required to handle these unfinished items. Balance is crap until hilted, so stamina should be required until hilted.

Which is why I am asking for them to give us an example of an ultimate item (that will never exist) in each path and what other paths are reequired to make it. As a barb, lore tert, I cannot really aford to wait 6 monthes from day 1. I will specialize in edged weapons as soon as I can and work from there.
I just want to know what secondary path I should take to achieve my goal.

So you want to basically have the new system down and worked out completely as quickly as possible "wasting" no time what so ever?
How do you even get enjoyment out of systems like these?
I think you should try taking a step back for a bit and try looking at it from the perspective of the lore guilds who have nothing at all. This is a huge change for them. I know a lot of you have dedicated yourselves to forging however, I wouldn't worry too much.
If you enjoy crafting and making stuff something tells me you'll enjoy crafting and making stuff in the new system.
On the other hand, if you are in it for the sole purpose of making more money than God and having a larger bank account than everyone else I think you might be disappointed by ANY changes to the system which allow others to have any shot at crafting stuff.

Galren, I have learned smithing 4 times already. Bronze, metal sludge, water and current. I have learned the intricies of compression and coming up with the perfect mix. How to squeeze the most out of every bit of special metal I am given to forge. I have spent MUCH time to become a master smith. Time I could have been 30+ circles higher than my current 115th. A half hour of hunting celpeze/armidillos gives me 4+ plat kro from skining. In sky giants or malachi, twice that with boxes. A half hour in the forge makes me a little more in plats, much less in TDP's, but does not teach me much more than mech lore.

I really hope that they give all of the well known forgers some extra smithing skill ranks under your belt. I know more than one of you has helped me on multiple occasions, if not directly then through your very useful weapons and armors. It is truely appreciated, and I hope they give you a starting bonus to help reflect my, and I'm sure the rest of the community's appreciation of your hard work.

If you want to reallocate your mech lore into something outside the mech lore split, you have two options:
1)CHECK IN REROLL
2)CHECK IN RETIRE
If you're really set on this decision, I would suggest #1 since you might be able to get some mileage out of your name recognition (whoever you are.)
