Heyo!

The HUM verb has been updated to be compatible with the PLAY 2.0 system. You may now use HUM to train your vocal skills in precisely the same way you use instruments to train instrumental skills. This is now live in Platinum and Prime, with TF to follow in a day or two if nothing major breaks.

Type HUM HELP for full syntax.

You may use HUM to hum various types of song using the following syntax:

HUM (song) {mood}
() indicates a required field. {} indicates an optional field.

Available Song types (from easiest to hardest):
scales, arpeggios, ditty, folk, ballad, waltz, lullaby, march, jig, lament, wedding, hymn, rumba, polka, battle, reel, elegy, serenade, minuet, psalm, dirge, gavotte, tango, tarantella, bolero, nocturne, requiem, fantasia, rondo, aria, sonata, and concerto.

Available Styles/Moods:
off-key, halting, confident, masterful, slow, loud, quiet, quick, fierce, flashy, playful, solemn, mournful, wistful, excited, haunting, romantic, and cheerful.

Off-key and halting styles will make all songs easier to play. Confident and masterful styles will make all songs more difficult to play.

The basic fluff versions of HUM still work as they used to, but do not teach nor do they have the limitations of the newer mechanics.

The new HUM mechanics work very much like the PLAY mechanics. There are far fewer restrictions to what you can do while humming, but there are still some, and yes, these are intended. In some cases, no, they may not make sense, but there need to be some limits. Because humming has fewer restrictions than instruments, it doesn't teach vocals quite as well playing instruments would teach the instrumental skills, but it's still a viable method of learning vocals.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The actions that are possible while humming are subject to change, as is the learning rate. This release is being monitored and a few things may yet be tweaked (for better or worse).

The current messaging is very basic. I'll be expanding one or two more verbs to allow vocal training in the near future, and will put in more varied messaging once all vocal options are in place.

"So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried, he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled that thing
That couldn't be done and he did it."
