You might recall that it's officially contest time. (Go ahead, you can groan).
So, the important stuff:
The Rules
1) Write a recall message. This can be for anything that currently lacks a recall, however locations and critters are preferred. Feel free to make up lore for places that lack it, reference events players have been involved in or events long past. Likewise events of any scope are acceptable. However please indicate if your recall references currently exiting lore (citations would be awesome) or is entirely new material. Please avoid slandering players or blatantly contradict existing lore as such entries will be discarded anyhow.
2) Submit your entry to DR-Raesh@play.net.
3) All submissions should contain:
a) The text of the recall.
b) Any tiers the recall should be broken into.
c) The location of the recall
d) Any existing references to your recall's content.
e) Your primary character's name and instance.
f) Your account name.
4) You need not have a bard to enter.
5) You may enter as many times as you wish, though if you could combine multiple entries to one email I'd appreciate it.
6) The deadline for entries is whenever I pass out the night of 6/30/10.
The Prizes
You get to help create a bit of game lore that will be seen by countless Bards! Oh and I suppose we'll find a way to give out three alterations to the best entries, as determined by a gathering of (likely drunken) Bards.
The standard disclaimers all apply - all submissions become the property of Simutronics, they may or may not be used at all, and if used they may be subjected to editing for length, content, grammar, historical accuracy, or at the whim of The Toad.

Re: Recall Contest on 06/28/2010 12:31 AM CDT
Recall Contest Ending on 06/29/2010 11:23 PM CDT
Recall Contest Winners on 07/27/2010 08:20 PM CDT
And the winners of the Recall Contest are...
First Place
Terra for The Temple of Light:
As you walk into this room, you are reminded of a story that echoed throughout the Bardic Guildhalls for many months after it took place on 32 Moliko, Day 271 in the year 394 AV. During the middle of the war against Lyras and her undead generals as Shard was being bombarded by attacks from Tachid and his minions, the Ferdahl's handmaiden took matters into her own hands. With a mass of fervent followers surrounding her, Amaldriel Anduwenahle directed her prayers to a unicorn relic in the Temple of Light in the name of Hodierna. It was recorded that a stunning white unicorn with hooves of flashing steel and a golden spiral horn, appeared and fought alongside the Handmaiden and Ilithi's finest, tearing effortlessly through the lesser undead minions that threatened the crystal city. The end result was that the undead General Tachid was reduced to nothing more than a sort of necromantic goo which was placed in a sana'ati urn and scheduled to be shipped to the High Temple of Zoluren.
Second Place
Powerhaus for Misch Saves the Crops
Gazing into the fountain, you recollect how the Warrior Mage Misch used his talents of water manipulation to save the town's crops during one particulary terrible drought. A few versions of the tale say he spent the entire season providing water for the parched crops, and that he may have given his life to save the community. On rare occasion you had heard that his works of good had cause flooding of other towns downstream; and nearby villages had perished from extreme famine, their small supply of water seemingly vanished.
Third Place
Eoworfinia for Smoky Bandit's Shop
Glancing around the room, you recall that Smoky’s shop is family operated since it’s opening many years ago. As you gaze at the pipes, pouches and tobacco in the shop, you recall how travelers of all types will stop here for all their tobacco and pipe smoking needs. Locals however whisper that maybe the tobacco is not grown by Smoky’s family but instead smuggled in from places unknown. Lending credence to the shop’s claims, the tobacco’s flavors discredit the claim as the leaves of the shop are much different than those of warmer temperatures.
Please contact me through my play.net address to schedule your alteration.
Many thanks to everyone who entered. Remember - just because your entry didn't win doesn't mean it has no chance of show up in the game when time and editing allows.

Recall Contest - The series! on 08/13/2010 11:33 PM CDT
Due to the success of the Recall Contest I've decided to make it a monthly series. However this version is going to be a little different, we'll get to that. First we have the standard disclaimers: Any and all entries become the product of Simutronics, your work may or may not end up being used in the game and if so it may be subjected to editing for grammar, spelling, content, historical accuracy or whim of The Toad. No plagiarizing, entires may be disqualified for any reason, prizes are non transferable and of no cash value etc etc and so forth.
On to the rules:
1) Like the last contest, this is open to everyone.
2) Like the last contest, recalls may be for a creature, area, item etc. Anything really, though if it goes outside of existing categories the odds of it being added to the game go down significantly.
3) This will be a reoccurring contest running every month. The deadline for each month is midnight pacific on the final day of the month.
4) Unlike the last contest there will be no judgement. All valid submissions will be entered into a random drawing to select the winner. You may enter as many times as you wish each month but only the first three will be considered for the drawing each month.
5) One person each month will receive a prize. It may be an alteration, it may be something else. It'll be a surprise each month.
6) All entries MUST be sent to Bardrecall@gmail.com or they will NOT be counted. Do NOT send them to my play.net.
Now, by popular request, this time I'm including some example recalls that currently exist in the game.
Muspar'i, Heketha Square
Bringing to mind a conversation with some townsfolk, you recall that the Heketha Theater wasn't very popular when it opened, years ago. The people of the city adored their Street of Performers, where the crowds would gather for every type of entertainment imaginable, but the King hated mingling with the rabble, so he and a wealthy Elothean trader from Surlaenis collaborated to build the theater. The trader, Diyge Mearik, became an influential patron of the city's Bards, sponsoring many of the famous plays that came out of Muspar'i.
Goblins
Goblins can be found throughout Elanthia, from the fields west of Crossing to the frozen slopes of Aesry Surlaenis'a. The most common, and least dangerous, are the field and wildland goblins, although even these can be dangerous in great numbers.
Goblins are also known to produce great leaders and proficient soldiers. Goblin warriors, berserkers, archers, mercenaries, chieftains, warlords, and even princes have been known to occassionally join their lesser kin in battle.
Divination Bones
You recognize the bones as a divination tool used by Moon Mages and preferred by the Skindancers and other Nomads of the Arid Steppe. Shamans and seers use the arrangement of the bones as they fall on the ground to predict what will come. First created by the shamans of the Arid Steppe as a means to scry the future, carved and enchanted bones have been used for countless years and are among the oldest known type of divination tool. Part astrology, and part mysticism, there are some Nomads who believe that the power of the bones lies in their connection with the dead, while others insist that it is the enchantment process, through which the bones are imbued with magic properties, that gives them their unique properties. A seer, properly trained to observe celestial bodies, tosses the bones on the ground before them and reads their seemingly random placement, often with uncanny insight.
Finally what your submissions need to contain:
1) Your main PC's name.
2) Your account name.
3) What instance you play in.
4) What/Where is being recalled (in a clearly identifiable way. "That room in Shard" or "My weapon" aren't going to cut it).
5) The text of your recall.
6) Any citations for your recall or if it is entirely original work, and if relevant what game instance the recall refers to.
PLEASE One recall per email. Each email will be counted as a single entry.
Finally - have fun with it. If you have any questions please direct them to the Bard forums.
-Raesh
PS: I know, I know, the current winners (And other submissions) aren't in game yet. I need to finish this road trip, do some minor back end updates, edit them, QC them and put em in the game. It'll happen, and actually won't take that long I think, I just need to find a block of time to do it. Promise.

Re: Recall Contest - The series! on 08/13/2010 11:42 PM CDT
It has been brought to my attention that the initial post was not clear on one important point.
The randomly selected winner wins the monthly prize. It does NOT influence the odds of that particular recall making it into the game or not. All entries will be considered for possible inclusion into the game.

August Recall Contest on 09/01/2010 03:00 PM CDT
The winner, by random selection, of the Recall Contest for August is...
Sircha.
This month's prize will be a choice of one amongst a number of items designed by Vaeldriil.
This also officially starts off the September contest. Rules can be seen in the prior post, but as a reminder entries should be sent to Bardrecall@gmail.com, the contest is NOT limited to Bards and a random entry will be selected at the end of the month for a prize.
I'll admit, turn out this month was very low - if it does not pick up I am unlikely to continue this contest for much longer. Which is a shame, both because I have some awesome prizes in mind and because the entire goal of these contests is to give players an opportunity to help flesh out game lore.

Recall Contest - October on 11/08/2010 01:08 PM CST
Sorry for the late announcement here -- Lost track of it at little bit with all the Hollow Eve chaos.
Anyhow, the winner for October is... Terra!
The prize is the choice between one alteration and a mystery prize (No take backs!).
As a reminder to anyone planning to enter the future, if you do not include your primary character's name, your account name and your instance -- I can't give you a prize, because I don't know who you are!
I don't like disqualifying winners because of that, but there's not much I can do at that point. You have all been warned.
IMPORTANT
Due to my schedule, the late notice of this announcement, and most importantly the small number of entrys there will NOT be a recall contest for November. The next deadline for the recall contest will instead be the end of the year.

Nov/Dec Recall Contest on 01/12/2011 11:44 PM CST
Again, apologies for the late posting. I'll go ahead and blame... the holidays. And the Empaths. Yeah, let's blame them.
Anyhow, the winner is: Naea
This month(s) prize will be a custom designed blade and sheath combo.
Now for some mixed news... at this point I'm suspending the Recall Contest. The entries have been great, though not terribly numerous, and frankly -- I've been bogged down lately and need to finish up some updates to the system so we can get these recalls you've all been writing into the game. Once that's done if you've all had time to recharge your batteries and the interest is there, I'll be happy to resume the contest.
In the meanwhile, you're always welcome to submit ideas for recalls here on the forums. They'll get read.
