I'm not sure if this is the correct folder or not but presumed this was as good a place as any to make an enquiry regarding instruments.
I have almost no experience with instruments or with the performing skill in general and was considering taking one up. I noticed on Elanthipedia that instruments have, what I presume, is an extended appraisal value exclusively for Bards detailing the quality of the instrument. Does that have any impact on other guilds or is it really only beneficial for Bards? I was considering selecting the rosewood violin from the Aftermath quest based on the exquisite craftsmanship value. However, If a generic instrument from a music shop will yield the exact same results for me, I'd just as soon use something else.

The corked glass bottle in the Crossing Artificer's. Keep in mind that Soul is also esoteric, so you may not quite have the augmentation to pull it off, and it will also require a fair amount of arcana to invoke the bottle.

I have found quality in an instrument is a good indication of how difficult the instrument will be to play.
An exquisitely crafted violin is more difficult to play than the store-bought ones in the Crossing, for instance.
It may all just be circumstantial, however.

If you get the masteries, you should be able to cast both spells at around 200 in their needed skills. This was the case for me. Otherwise it is supposedly 250 (according to DISCERN).
>>DEMA is Augmentation/Debilitation, so Augmentation alone won't cut it.
I believe the cast relies on the lower of the two.

Quality and difficulty are separate things as far as instruments go.
I am not going to say that will not ever change, but right now they are separate -- with the quality indicator basically being a bit of fluff for you guys.
I imagine if you're seeing a difficulty jump its either because the instrument itself is using a more difficult template (however, this is very unlikely -- but I'm going to poke at the templates to make sure) or that silly thing that happens called confirmation bias. :)

With the mastery feats, I was able to get DEMA up occasionally at about 180 debil (and 200+ aug). At 190 debil I was able to cast it pretty much all the time. It helps to wait about 5 seconds past the full prep message.
