I suppose it might be beyond hilarious to play an entire song on, say, a piece of paper (ie, an improvised reed that vibrates when you breathe across it), but what about these kinds of improv instruments, Dart? Possible? No chance of repair, and in fact it'd be a lot like embroidery patterns in that they are guaranteed to wear out in time without fail (bardic drool and all).

Maybe even a quickly whittled whistle a la the annoying staves.

J'Lo, no that other one

While truly disposable or makeshift instruments like you described aren't anywhere in the foreseeable future, Skiffle will be making its appearance alongside bagpipes, and the world will heave a collective groan!

Skiffles! Now that sounds like Skittles! I love it Dart!

Looking up the meaning, I see that one type of skiffle is a cigar-box fiddle. I want it! hehe Please?

I'm rooting for a jew-harp (are these the same as mouth harps? I can't recall offhand) type instrument along with my sackbut and hurdy-gurdy.

Also. If I could play my nose, that would be great.

Kazoo's fall into this category too. I loved driving my mom crazy with one of those as a kid.

Oh yes! My mom hated the slide whistle.

In another sense of the word disposable, aren't there things like spun-sugar whistles out there? Can you eat those?

We used to use blades of grass for whistles. That would be kind of neat.

I'd still like to see songbirds! And maybe some bird calls.

Hah, funny. I watched Failure to Launch yesterday (don't ask, it was the wife's idea), and there was a running gag with an irritating mockingbird that pretty much mirrored my own feelings on the matter.

If songbirds show up, there needs to be a way to "remove" them as well. I'm talking cement shoes kind of remove here.

Lets roll Danner in peanut butter and bird seed, and start a Bard Backyard Habitat episode.

I'll just open up my mouth and pretend I'm a bird house, and chomp down when they land to nest.

Ug, and I'm sure I know which "end" you're refering too!

There probably wouldn't be any hanging needed if I was rolled in peanut butter, I'd probably just stick to his stinky fur when he decides to sit on me yet again <sigh>.

Woe is me! Life is so difficult!

<<spun-sugar whistles>>

I know I remember candy whistles or sugar whistles of some kind in game, and I think they were edible. Can't remember where from offhand...I'll need to go look.

I used to love those things IRL. Haven't seen any in a while, though. :( It's likely a bona fide candy store would have them, but there aren't any of those stores nearby, and that's probably a good thing in the grand scheme of things...

Some were sold at the Bard Fest near Fayrin's Rest. Not sure if any have been released elsewhere/elsewhen, but I do remember getting several at that particular celebration.

Not sold, no. They were in the door prize gift sack Bards could grab on entry to the place. There was a bug that let folks initially get another bag each day, until Deryka fixed it. The bag had the candy whistle and the awesome cool guild signet ring, and I think a pin as well, but I can't recall...

Shavay is right, it was a door prize in a bag. It definitely included the candy whistle and a cachoban (sp?) ring. I still have the whistle in my vault, and at least one ring. There were two types of rings as well...one had a sapphire and one a ruby. They let you blow through them too to produce a whistle, it's quite neat.
