Have never known much about instruments IG, but decided to try and picked up starters for percussion/wind/strings. I'm just curious if I'm imaginining something, or if, with equal play time of each instrument, percussion learns far slower. Each instrument is the easiest the shop offers... lyre, ocarina, tambourine. Is it something I'm doing wrong, or is percussion just an inherently more difficult instrument group to play?

Percussion is definitely very difficult to start with. There isn't a good easy percussion, which means beginners tend to fail a lot and thus, don't learn well.

You're preaching to the choir buddy! <grins>
But... its not so bad. Granted, I don't get everything out of it that i'd like... I still love the people. The members are what makes the bards guild so great. If I didn't pick it, i'd likely of never met such wonderful people.

The txitsu that is hair worn is a wind instrument.
You can wear castanets, zills and the frottoir are the worn percussions that I know of and the txitsu and bagpipes the worn wind instruments.

We all have our moments. Most of mine like that come either from posting pre-coffee, or posting while a toddler is asking for "Mommy Lap? Mommy Lap?" (or more drink, or train DVD, or...)
