Sounds excellent. Both increasing drain rate and/or pulse size, or even helping mindstate would be lovely and would severely increase the popularity of the instrument skills.

This sort of reminds me of a short story I read in Dragon magazine called The Common Spell. It was about a bunch of mages running around trying to find and dominate this lady who supposedly knew the most powerful spell known to mortals. Turns out she was just referring to knowing how to read and write.

I need Thilan to repost more of my ideas:)
Per the spirit regen, can you instead of having it start at minute, have it start at any song, and be much less effective, then have minuet be the median (where its at currently) and more impressive songs up it even further (maybe it can also generate a small amount of mana and health regen).
Add in a special bard effect that those listening to the bard also receive some of the benefit (say 1/5th) after say, 300 ranks in musical theory. That would promote groups of bards playing in an area, and for people to come 'listen'.
