I'm not sure if this has ever been suggested before, seems like the kind of thing that would be, or if they already exist I haven't come across any.

How about prayer books/tomes/grimoires/other fancy word meaning book that contain prayer parchments, like spellbooks for prayer? Maybe have it give minor devotional gains for reading, allow us to preach from it, what have you.

I'd like to have my cleric be able to walk around with a big book of ways to make people feel bad and sinful for the lives they lead.

This will be one of my next few projects (unless I coax someone else to do it sooner).

Well I know sorcery and definitely necromancy are against the existing guild-based gods. That they dislike blasphemy and aren't too keen on those who never get favors or pray perhaps. Beyond those few things though, dr is not similar to the rl religions for the most part as concepts of sin and such are different if not almost non-existent

(which by the way are about the only reasons I can stand to play a Cleric or Paladin ig) I do like the idea of prayer books, though in theory.

"as concepts of sin"

I used to- back in the days when Flavius actually did RP preaching- preach about how sinful dieing was- usually to a corpse. There is absolutely no ingame support that that I know of, but I had great fun running with it. Never once had a character ask me the obvious question- what is "sin"?, though I had lots of characters argue with me that dieing was not inherently sinful.

Thanks- one of the things i have discovered is that its hard to be gung ho about something like righteous preaching for over 10 years. At some point I just got too tired to bother anymore.

I also used to make corpses pledge to get a favor from Kertigen if I resurrected them. I loved the situations that would come from that. If I asked that now, half the people wouldn't know where to get a favor from Kertigen. The other half are buddies who it would just make them have to do something 'not fun' anymore.

I need to find some new schtick.

What he said. As a player, I just am no longer able to dredge up the same fiery zeal that fuels the actions of Sorenne. I got lazy... Haha.

Also, the fact that there is no more starry road and people just depart without bothering to wait for a cleric reduces the opportunities for my character to go all fire and damnation on people. Not that this is the ONLY way to be like that, it's just that it was the easiest way to get an audience to stay long enough to appreciate the acting. It was a good way for Sorenne to educate people on the gods too. :)

Don't get me wrong. I am not against the depart changes because as a player who often plays in early am and having played in almost deserted provinces, I can fully appreciate the benefits of the depart system now.

It's just a bit sad because my Sorenne doesn't get to shine the way she once did. :'(

However, I must admit, I like the prayer book idea with RP stuff built-in. I hope that it can become a reality. :)

Like Flav...Sorenne needs a new schtick too...
