After over 8 years, I've finally learned to accept the facts. Why stay where you are not wanted? Why stay where you see the "wrongdoers" get away with acts of evil while the innocent suffer injustice? It use to be isolated events, but now it's commonplace and those that don't play along suffer the consequences.
I've worked extremely hard in the last 8 years to get Tish where she is - nowhere. I've watched others roll up a cleric and circle past Tish in a year - what took Tish 8 years to achieve everyone else is doing in a year - yet I'm to believe Tish isn't bugged.
With most tasks in game, there's GM interference. Yay! If I kill someone for slapping me repeatedly I get a warning -let someone do it to Tish and it's okey dokey. Whatever.
I had a previous post that was removed, in part it read:
"Just a little OOC for all of you (not that any of you will care) but in the last three months I have had a tumultous time in my personal life with the death of both my parents and the unexpected quadruple bypass of my husband. As a result I have actually worked harder to be a lot nicer in game (yes I know I was quite the snot (to put it mildly) before), but I decided to let things go, to be nice, help when I could and not to get upset with people over what amounts to stupid stuff. I have needed DR these last few months for my grieving process, but I see that none of you can seem to get past the Old Tishra (who wasn't really that bad) and just want to slam on her every chance you get. Well have fun with that."
Yes, have fun with that.
Tish is leaving - those that know me, I will be in game over the next few weeks - please find me to divy up Tish's belongings so you have a little something to remember Tish by.

No, no, no! You just came back, don't let Luty scare you off, she's just strong willed like the rest of us.
What's wrong with the "Old Tishra"? I liked her. And if you leave, who else is going to clean the pockets of all the heathens that wander into our guild?
OOC I am sorry to hear about your losses, and that you haven't found the 'out' you needed from RL in DR. (As for myself, I've lost a friend to a freak accident, a coworker to cancer, and as of today our family dog of 5 years to kidney failure with complications since Simucon.) Life will get better maybe not today or tomorrow or the next day but it will.

Tishra,
My dear sister, I hate to see you go but I understand your frustratations. We have had some amazing times playing DR over the past 8 years together and a friendship that I know will continue on. You've always have been there for me in RL and I have found you to be one of the kindest people a person can know. Keep your spirits up and you know how to find me.

Never met you, but it still makes me sad to see another oldtimer go. Insofar as letting the snerts and idiots get you down, well, if you don't make some enemies, you're doing something wrong. Or at least that's my attitude towards life, both in DR and the real variety. Dio has certainly made his own share of them, and a few of them are quite, quite vicious. He's also made some incredible friends as well, and they far outnumber the idiots.
There will always be people in the world who choose to hate. Ultimately, I feel sorry for them. Just as I pity those who spend their entire lives only able to see what they lack or what they feel has been denied them.
I can quite understand leaving for a while for real life, particularly if DR isn't an escape for you. It took me a long time and a lot of help to learn to not choose to be hurt or offended by people who choose to live their lives in condemnation of those around them. I had to learn to choose to do the things that make me happy and not let others confuse me into doing things that don't make me happy.

Tish,
I don't know you but I feel sometimes I am one of the most loved/hated characters in the game. What you need is to take some you time. Take a break cause with all the stuff you've had to deal with, well I don't envy you. I hope things get better for you and hope you reconsider. Remember when life givs you lemons, use the juice to pour into the wounds of your enemies.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I have not had to experience that but I know someday I will and to even think of it brings tears to my eyes. My parents are in their 70's but both have not had any serious health issues.
I think when I've experienced something that was unbearable to deal with and it left me feeling like I couldn't do anything but lay there like a lump, the only thing that kept be going was to remember my children, the people who loved me, and what I was going to do to improve my future.
People in DR can be very cruel sometimes because they judge us on what our characters or us the player did. When you are a long time player such as yourself people forget to realize that yes, 1 year can change a person as to how they will react.
My point being..to all this, your real family matters, your happiness matters, and any friends you can make along the way matter. People who do not truly know you just do not have a clue and fill in the gaps of what we couldn't possibly know in an online situation with whatever they wish. I hope that makes sense. Be happy with yourself and the petty opinions of others cannot touch you.

What in that comment you quoted implied that I lacked maturity? It was merely a statement saying that some people are all too willing to have others shoulder the "burden" instead of looking at their own shortcomings. Tishra,
This comes from the heart of Me, Marissa. the Woman behind Kassai. from my soul my deepest sympathy for the losses and anguish You have been having to deal with lately. personal loss is beyond grief and I feel for You. and my prayers, and thoughts support You always.. never forget that.
as far as the character Tishra goes. there is not a day that hasn't gone by that Kass isn't annoying someone, or generally pissing someone off. that is because Kass is how I release my aggretions in life... an outlet so to speak for one cannot behave in the manner She does and live a normal existance in the real world. She is hated by tons. but on the other hand She is loved also by quite a few. the point is this.... ALL characters in DR go through things. some more than others. and the reason behind it is because try as we might to keep game from real life and seperate the two they blend sometimes. I will be this first to admit that when I have had a horrid day and I come online to play I try to keep it from showing in Kass. but alas sometimes that is not possible. so before You throw away years of memories.. good times, and yes the not so good times.. wait.. if You need a break then by all means take one. I did the same with Kass for a few weeks earlier until the feelings of frustraion, and wanting to walk her went away.. not trying to preach to You dear..just wishing and hoping that one of the best friends, IG or otherwise doesn't leave. selfish of me, perhaps.. but meant with the best of intentions.
as Far as the comment of this...
<<<<Feel free to don your pity party hat, but I won't have any of it. Keep the sad face cake w/tear-shaped candles to yourself pls, thx. ;_;>>>
all I can say is Luty, ...Woman... find yourself a heart..and stop and think..it is a game yes..but behind the characters is the people who play them.. and all of us have feelings.. and from time to time they do get hurt..
if You do go Tish.. I will miss You..

Nice post Marissa. We all bring RL things into the game sometimes. Our feelings do get hurt. Nearly all the people who play DR are decent caring individuals but because we don't have to be held personally accountable for our comments and actions IG, people can seem very cruel. Sometimes when I have issues with someone IG I just wish I could jump through my screen and have a heart to heart with them. Other times I'd like to just rip their throats out.. heh
Re: Tishra's Leaving on 09/21/2004 07:50 PM CDT
Personally, as upsetting as some of the situations in game can be, it's really not the situations themselves that have given me reason to leave, but GM handling of the situations. The GMs tend to be very one sided anymore, and very slanted against certain players. I've found that if you are not on a GMs "friends" list you will suffer in game in more than one way.
Tish has been the subject of this type of behavior for more than 5 years in game. Anyone else in my position would have quit long ago when they realized no matter how hard they worked they were never going to get ahead and no matter what the circumstances were they would be blamed.
I could fill pages with the "games" the GMs have played with Tish, but it's bad enough just knowing what they do, to put it down in words would make me feel even more stupid that I kept trying in the face of impassable obstacles.
I've stayed as long as I have because of friends. For now, I'm back to hanging out all alone working stupid survival skills that I'll never need to circle - even if the new reqs go in, I'm good to somewhere around 160th or something - but hey we gotta have a hobby.
I do find a lot of people bring real life into the game - including myself - however some people actually get a sick sense of satisfaction by taunting other people. Perhaps their lives are so dreary they feel they have nothing else they can do to feel better about themselves - and then they lie to protect themselves from the truth of who they are and what they do. I try to be fair in my dealings with others. If I'm snotty to you, it's because you did something that deserved that reaction - however, if you're snotty with me in response to something I did, I can admit I did something wrong.
I've been in the game long enough to have developed some very ugly conflicts and several enemies. The first being Cara and Salius in a conflict that happened so long ago there will be very few who even know who those people are. (Except Basthet and Lagerby - they'll remember)
I'm tired of the ripping people to shreds on the boards. Of siding with one person against another just for the fun of it. Of slamming one person for reporting (contrary to anyone's belief - I report only when a reportable violation has occurred - I haven't reported anyone in about 2 years) - this is suppose to be a family game. Occasionally my kids watch me play, my daughter will fill in for me while I run to the restroom or run to have a smoke. I certainly wouldn't appreciate someone swearing while she's sitting there - or killing or attacking me while she's sitting there. DR has become too much like TF everyone killing everyone else just because. No real reason, just because. So you said something I don't like, bam, you're dead. What? I'm sorry, people say stuff all the time I don't like - it doesn't mean I can kill them. They slap me, threaten me or continue to do things to annoy me, I'll kill them, but only after I've said if you keep it up I'll kill you. But apparently that is not correct behavior anymore - now it's just kill or be killed. What? RP? Play and have fun? What's that?
I needed this place as an escape. And it was, the first day back after my Dad died I played all day till 4 am, went to sleep, got up at 7 am and played all day again. Didn't think about anything but the game. And that's all I've been doing, just playing. But when I decided I needed to stop being alone and be with people - yuck.
So really, aside from GM interference and people acting like it's a war zone - DR is great. We'll see if my friends can talk me into staying - for now I'm alone again until I pull up and leave.

Get away from Crossing/Haven, hon. Go out to the islands, vines/maras up by Theren, puppies by Lang, even meys near Leth. Had a blast tonight, 4 empaths and a whole crew of other folks went and harassed the fang oysters. Didn't get anything but we had a great time.
We can get a bit more risque out there, but there are a lot more families, too, where we have a number of long term couples and huge extended families.
I've never seen the kind of random violence, senseless sparring and just crudity in the outlying areas that my one character who lives in Crossing sees/hears on a daily basis. It's a different world out there. There's far more to DR than the core cities.

Babydoll I know how You feel honestly.. trust me there is TONS of GM's that cant stand Kass. do I feel sometimes She is slighted.. absolutely. does it piss me off after all the hard work I do on her? more than I can express. especially as a customer, when I pay for the privilege of what feels like getting kicked in the teeth. but their are good GM's. honorable ones.. they may be far and few in between but they are there.
heck hun You wanna island hop?? I will come with... and stay with You as long as You want to.. anything to keep You from leaving..

Hmm I haven`t really figured out exactly for which reason you plan on leaving. If it`s because of conflicts with others well as everyone else has stated Crossing is the last place to be though you constantly look for it my dear. This was in the Crossing guild earlier today.

Regardless whether you give back what you take that sets the tone for folks attitude towards you.
I don`t know maybe you just don`t realize how abrasive you are IG. I would like for you and Luty to not fight but I understand if you guys can`t get along, theres what how many players IG on a given day? Eventually personalities are gonna clash. I`m not sure why you`re saying one thing on the boards and doing another IG but I think if DR is becoming too stressful for you then taking a break is always a good idea.

This isn't the place to argue, that would be the conflict boards, thanks for your endorsement of my decision to leave. Apparently you didn't read my last post. Thanks for letting me I know I cause all my own conflicts and I should leave DR. Perhaps that would make you're life all the more easier?
You're post was very accusatory and I thank you for pointing all the blame at me.
I'll be closing up shop so speak over the weekend, thanks to all those that tried to get me to stay, but obviously Nonavet in her infinite wisdom has showed me I should just make everyone else's life easier and leave.
Feel free to contact me in game so I may bestow departing gifts upon my friends and say my goodbyes.

It seems you're quite determined to ignore everyone offering you a hand up in favor of those few who insist on giving you the backs of theirs. <shrug>
Your choice, hon. Personally, I'd listen to the folks trying to help me because they're nice and ignore the people trying to hurt me, because they're mean. But then I'd much rather spend my time with nice people than mean people. I'm just like that.

Tishra's message evoked thoughts of other posts where GM favoritism was accused. The posters might well be correct. What I don't understand is how they get to the point where favoritism is even an issue.
I don't know any GM's personally, don't interact with them often. Is it because Flavius is just too bland? Or because Flavius doesn't irritate enough people?

I think I must be bland as well, I can count on one hand since 96 my number of GM interaction and most if not all weren`t in favor of me. Tishra I think you`re making this conflict a mountain out of a molehill. Everyone has offered a solution and a helping hand, why don`t you try the islands before you leave for good or like I said take a "Break" and get some perspective on things.
I pointed out in my other post why people get into some conflicts with you because you didn`t know why. If you don`t want a consentable conflict then maybe NOT doing those things are a start. I`m not getting on board with you in this conflict because I saw it all and hon you were wrong, straight up plain in the wrong. I`m sorry if that hurt your feelings but it`s the honest truth, now should it have ended up with your death? shrug everyone has a certain pressure point. You and Luty both got your licks in...call it a draw and let it go. I`m not giving you my back as someone else pointed out but I am offering my friendship. Heck if I could get over my HUGE conflict with Luty then anyone can. :)

>I don't know any GM's personally, don't interact with them often. Is it because Flavius is just too bland? Or because Flavius doesn't irritate enough people
Don't know. I mean I've certainly gotten tangled up in some really nasty stuff in my time in realms. Particularly when someone starts whispering threats to me, the player, about how they're going to find me and ... yeah. Course it wasn't bad enough that I remember who it was or even care. I seriously doubt any GM, no matter how biased, is going to give another player my billing information.
Flat out, after I got attacked, I left. I wasn't going to stick around for being treated like that. First I went to Arthe Dale and the pond, then up to Haven and by then I was big enough and self assured enough to be able to deal with it.
Last two times though I've needed an assist, well, I got Zabari. <g> Second was my little trader, although fortunately he had not decided to go full grunge yet. (I'd have been very embarassed at his clothing in front of that wonderful lady.) Now she didn't know me from a tree when I called in either assist.
Yes, there probably are annoying, biased and obnoxious GM's. They're human beings. Personally, though, I've never had to deal with one. Guess because I stopped being places where GM assists were done for anything other than bugs that needed immediate attention. Most places, though, we just don't assist unless it's something like getting stuck in the middle of the Aesry harbor.

<< The first being Cara and Salius in a conflict that happened so long ago there will be very few who even know who those people are. (Except Basthet and Lagerby - they'll remember)>>
salius was the first mapmaker. before ranik. before sabrina. there was salius.
<<DR has become too much like TF everyone killing everyone else just because. No real reason, just because. So you said something I don't like, bam, you're dead. >>
you'd be surprised. while TF was like that 2 years ago, its not really like that much anymore.
carry on.

I didn't know I was a girl...hmmm...anyway my problem wasn't with you it was the face you stole from me. I would have acted the same way with anyone else that stole from me....just ask Shadowpaw when she stole from me. As I said to someone about someone else, I do not dislike anyone, I've hardly spoken with Tishra so I wouldn't know.

It looks like I'm a bit tardy to the party, but I'm still obligated to drop a reminder that conflicts belong in the conflict folder. And have mostly already gone there. So, like, yeah... ...Yeeeeeaaaaah.

Sorry so late with my farewell to you Tish. Hurricane Ivan kept me and my family a bit busy. I understand some of what you're going through. I lost my mom in the summer of '99 and my father this past Feburary. Since I lost my dad, I've found my drive for playing DR slowly fading. Nothing like a couple of bad experiences in the game to help put those nails in the coffin during an emotionally stressful time. I tried taking part in events to make the world a bit more exciting for myself but have come to a conclusion that events are just for a select circle. If you open your mouth, you're either made fun of, put down for your lack of knowledge of what's going on, or just totally ignored in a lot of the cases. For the most part, now I only pop on when my friends need help. As if anyone can't tell, I too have finally decided it's time for me to throw in the towel and take a step back and start focusing on other things for awhile. Good luck Tish in your future endeavors and perhaps our paths will cross again...and since we share the same sis, (Yes you Basthet. ;p ), it's always a possibility.
Take care all!

Salius was the first map maker in the large, i'm sure people made maps before him, but he did a lot of them, and he set the standard. I don't know this zepath, and if his or her maps were like salius' but as henry ford didn't invite the car... salius didn't invent the map, they both just figured out how to do it on a large scale and do it right.

>>Sorry had to chime in on this, Salius was not the first DR mapmaker, Zepath was, Zepath was also Treveri's old GM3 character but he was the one who set the molds that the other mapmakers followed.
Zepath was GS3 maps, and even though he may of set the mold for Salius to follow, most people who remember back that far will remember it was Salius who did the first large scale mapping for Dragonrealms. Salius did some good work overall and set the mold for Dragonrealms as far as I am concerned, and I'm sure most other long timers will feel the same.

I have Salius maps as well, but my first maps of Crossing (which I still use) and the West Gate, West Gate Wilds are all Zepath's maps. In my opinion, Zepath's maps are the same as Salius as far as look goes. Since I never really ventured much beyond Crossing in those days I never really printed any other maps of Zepath's, but all my other maps are Salius maps and I think if he hadn't left, all maps would be Salius maps.

Zepath crossed over and did make the first DR maps which Salius took and refined. I know this because I know them both, Salius was a fellow Ranger, and Zepath incarnation here in DR was none other than Treveri, the Ranger GM.
