Hey all, I'm having trouble training sorcery wondering what others are doing to lock the skill.

I use symbiosis just like with a regular spell. As a cleric, you'll probably be best served by a self-cast basic or intro difficulty Moon Mage spell that is symbiotically enhanced. Something like Clear Vision, Shadows, Piercing Gaze, etc. This will keep your backlashes to a minimum and should still train you to around 700-800 ranks of sorcery before needing to move up to an advanced spell.

You'll need to figure out your sorcery symbiotic cap, since discern doesn't account for symbiosis and assumes primary magic is the skill you will be using, not your sorcery skill. Or it doesn't account for the additional skill penalty inherent to sorcery. I'm not entirely sure which of those two it actually is.

I know others have success using either TM or Debilitation sorcery, but I prefer to keep my backlash chances to a minimum in combat by sticking to buffs which only need recasting every so often so I don't know how to make effective use of TM/Debil sorcery for training.

With 449 sorcery as a moon mage I'm prepping PFE at 10, prepping chaos symbiosis, charging 8 into cambrinth, and casting. I chain cast until locked and usually gain between 3/34 and 4/34 per cast. I've tried charging 9 into cambrinth and learn more but I backfire (not backlash) more often so I stick with 8 extra in cambrinth.

Definitely not this. This is my discern for Shadows as a Cleric with 132 Sorcery and 1357 Holy Magic. It's definitely not counting my holy magic. It does seem like it's calculating my sorcery ranks.

The spell requires at minimum 5 mana streams and you think you can reinforce it with 29 more, for a total of 34 streams.

I do wish they would make it so it would calculate Symbiosis though.

I wouldn't be so sure.

I see this when I discern CV: "The spell requires at minimum 8 mana streams and you think you can reinforce it with 20 more, for a total of 28 streams"

I can push 14 into the spell with occasional backfires (cast failure, not damaging)

That's with 365 PM, 333 Aug, and 113 Sorcery.

Well it's not primary Magic alone anyway. I'm sure I can cap a first tier spell with 1300 pm

Thinking about it more I'd say that it does base it off of sorcery ranks but as if they were primary magic ranks and don't take into account the difficulty of casting across mana types.

At 743 sorcery, I use ES, it's been my spell from the start and still going strong, still can't cap it.
