Since these curses are both 2 slots and both spirit vs fortitude, is there any reason to have both? Is there a case where CoZ would definitely be preferred over Malediction?
The only case I can think of where CoZ is better is if you know someone only has one weapon at all. Even then, I'm not positive its practical effect is stronger than general-cast Malediction, but I'd have to get into recording some statistics for that, and I figured I'd check here first, see what you all think.
Right now I have both spells and I'm thinking of freeing up a couple slots by dumping CoZ. I never use it.
It depends on what you're using it for.
In PvE applications CoZ can prove more advantageous when fighting armed/armored opponents (xala'shar for instance).
Whereas Malediction has somewhat broader applications.
In PvP applications it's not quite as clear cut but they both still are applicable.
I took Male because its far more versatile. You can use >offense with hydra hex to up-hunt sooner, and then switch to general casting as your defenses improve. If you want to kill faster you could cast >defense.
With CoZ it doesn't work with unarmored foes so seems less beneficial compared to Male.
As for PVP, no idea. The good thing is you can test it out with a buddy though.
Does CoZ still 'curse' held items? I could see that being extremely useful versus players, as it would presumably limit their options on how to fight you.
Male is obviously a more effective disabled, but I believe it's also shorter-lived.
That said I have and use Malediction regularly and have no plans to pick up CoZ unless I see myself fighting other players or with spell slots to burn, strictly because Male is more versatile when hunting.
For PvE purposes I use Malediction (with Hydra Hex) when I am:
- Moving into a new hunting area for the first time.
- Having any trouble hitting with my secondary weapons.
- Need to lock my Debilitation skill.
For PvP purposes I use Malediction single cast on opponents 'cause, yeah. Just yeah.
I would never bother using CoZ for PvE, for PvP I'd use it religiously just to lessen the effectiveness of an opponent's armor.

They changed it so that a person could still swap out weapons, before it would curse the weapon so badly that they couldn't. When they switch to a new one the curse is applied to it on the next pulse.

>> Out of curiosity since this was mentioned - can you cast MALE OFFENSE with HYH? I may be remembering incorrectly but I don't recall there being a difference in messaging if you CAST MALE OFF or CAST MALE DEF with HYH.
Definitely. When i first got HYH and Male I couldn't cast "MALE OFFENSE" because of skill. I could "CASE MALE" just fine. I went and grabbed the debilitation mastery and I could use "CAST MALE OFF".
Hope that makes sense.
