I don't remember link working this way before, but has it changed?

As the link between you and **** deepens, you feel not as smart in scholarship.

So, i link and feel not as smart? Is that because i realize he knows more or that i am taking a hit?

If it is you linking someone for an experience boost and you got that messaging, most likely you have a good deal more than them, so they are dragging you down a smidge.

If you got that when someone linked you, then i'm stumped. I think i've only linked half a dozen times, although I think it rocks.

I think it would be an awesome ability, and increase the usefulness of LINK greatly, if we could actually LINK CHECK and determine what sort of link we've established, and to what degree.

Something like:

>LINK CHECK
You feel a deep empathic link with Sadris, and you feel far more competent... (50+ ranks)
You feel a deep empathic link with Sadris, and you feel more competent... (25 - 49 ranks)
You feel a deep empathic link with Sadris, and you feel a bit more competent... (10 - 24 ranks)
You feel a deep empathic link with Sadris, and you feel just as competent... (-9 - 9 ranks)
You feel a deep empathic link with Sadris, and you feel a bit less competent... (-10 - -24 ranks)
You feel a deep empathic link with Sadris, and you feel less competent... (-25 - -49 ranks)
You feel a deep empathic link with Sadris, and you feel far less competent... (-50 or less ranks)

You get the idear. Very specific messaging detailing the strength and depth of the link... which provides useful information to the Empath. DOWN WITH VAGUENESS!

I think this ability should be based on discilpline, wisdom, scholarship, and empathy.

There's a big random factor in how good a link you will get, so most likely your link was on the bottom range of what you could get from that person. Also, there's a difference in the messaging between first linking and doing a LINK CHECK. I've had links where I get the negative message at the start like you did, but LINK CHECK says it's a good link. So who knows...

I thought I had read somewhere else that this was actually correct, if a bit messy. It's supposed to denote that you feel 'not as smart' at scholarship (or whatever you're linking to) as the person you're linking to is. Mebbe I'm making that up? Coulda sworn I saw it somewhere. I'm 99% sure I saw that messaging when I linked to a very high circle Empath with my ~10th circle one... I don't think I could lower my Empathy, if I linked to someone 100+ circle. <shrug>
If it does mean that you're effectively lowering your skill via the link... whoever wrote that messaging needs some grammar lessons or something, because that's just awful looking. It's pretty bad either way, truthfully.

Only time I get the "not as smart" is when someone has less skill than me in the subject I'm linking to.

So it's either a bug or that person has less skill.

if you're really close to their skill level, you can get the negative message, even if they know more than you. As Pure said, there's a big random figure between the actual skills and what you get out of it. I never check my links by what the link message says. Always check by the link check command, it seems to be accurate, whereas the other does not

Being blonde and saying your dumb has always been one of my pet peeves... I even know a couple blondes who are geniuses.
But why do you cast so many heart links if you can't remember all of them?

You mean like Bruce Lee? He probably wasn't all that introverted, but he had a lot of demons he never talked about.

Besides Clemency, if you pay attention to the words filtering across your screen, the persons to whom you are heart linked to show up in the messaging most of the time

To Link, or not to link. I have recently been enjoying this ability quite a bit, but every time I try to use it I have to explain syntax with the oposing party. To make this much easier, how about allowing the link to be present without forcing it to be accepted?
This of course would be hampered if it has any negative side effects I am not aware of. After all, how does a non-empath know enough about empathic touches to deepen an empathic link.

Iaceo.

Is this noticable, does it change with skill difference. Any chance of this negative effect being reomved? ect...

Along this line what is the chance of removing the RT for a person accepting the link?

I like the idea. Insta-link on the receiving end, round time for the empath. (as long as we're talking deep links, not heal-you links) The syntax is annoying. I always kept forgetting so now I have a trigger for when Khary tires to link, its just easier to type YES than whatever the real syntax is.

Just the insane RT from what I've noticed, or am I missing something?

I feel strongly about this, but I also feel empath to empath link in which the receving empath does not know how to link should be a forced accept. That way they don't learn the skill accidently without even knowing it, or how to use it.

It's -link person- which sounds easy enough, but would be nice if establishing the link request actually gave syntax akin to the request to teach.

I've always felt there should be more instruction on the receiving end. It doesn't actually tell the person that you have to [Link <empath>] which is annoying. I always just whisper to the person the syntax they should use after they've agreed to link with me.

It's my desire, as soon as I get the chance to do so, to redo the messaging for Link to make it a bit more clear...especially during the initiation phase.

It's very difficult to find the right circumstances, but I have lost shifts having someone link to me. As I said, it's a very small difference, so I have to almost have just gotten the one rank that gives me a new shift to see it

The negative affect to the person being linked to is relative on the skill gap between two said persons.

So linking people closer to your skill level (I think no more than 50-75 ranks if I recall) shouldn't have any adverse side affects to any party.

However, that is based on messaging, where the person being linked to won't be getting a "you feel not as smart in DeathMonkeySummoning"; there may still be detrimental affects not signaled by message.
